The other day I was using my iron on some fusible
fleece. My iron is a mess. Any suggestions on how to clean it? I used vinegar and salt, Goo be gone, Mr clean eraser and a teflon scrubber. Nothing will clean it. Any suggestions? Thanks Lynda |
Sounds like you have already tried a lot of things. I hope it's not an expensive iron. You may have to get a new one..... :-(

Only thing left that I could think of to try is set the iron on hot, then iron a wet towel. It may take some off, may not. I agree, you probably will have to get a new iron.
And we will be careful ourselves with this stuff after reading about your problem!!! Sure hope that iron is not a new one. |
I have an old iron with the metal plate bottom. It must be thirty years old, it doesn't shut off until you unplug it but I just use a stainless steel scrubber from the kitchen to clean mine off. Let me tell you, it gets disgusting. I even got it too close to a plastic bag a couple of times. After scrubbing, I rub the bottom off to remove any metal residue and plug her back in. I don't know what else you could use if you have a new fancy iron.

You might google 'cleaning (whatever you used) from iron'. I found several solutions for my mom after she burned something on an iron skillet. She tried one of the suggestions and it worked.

I highly recommend that you get an applique sheet that you put over you fabric and fusible web then iron it. I have a Fons and Porter one and it is worth the investment. Not expensive, $15-16 at Joann's and and you can use a coupon on it so it will be even cheaper. Since using it, I have never had any fusible web on my iron!!!

I have used a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser after the iron is cold. It worked pretty well.

Iron a fabric softner sheet. It works like a charm but be sure to iron and old towel after.

I use Iron Off, available at your LQS. It's made by Dritz and works on everything I've come acrossed on my iron.
