Home made extra, extra large work gloves
In all the experience on the board does anyone know or make work gloves that are large, large and very warm. I cannot find any gloves that fit my husband and if on the chance I do find some they are not warm enough. Somewhere out there must be some one that had a design, material, etc. mittens don't work because on a farm you have to use you hands and fingers. It was30 blow last night. I was considering insulbrite for lining but it may be too bulky. Help!!!!!

You might try Duluth Trading Company. They have a lot of work gloves, sizes up to 2XL. Reading the reviews might help you make a choice.

I have tried them with many others--again if they fit they do not stay warm. If they do fit there is not enough room to put another pair in.

Ski gloves maybe? Or have you looked at Tractor Supply? I would think they should have a pretty decent selection for what you are looking?

Just got a pair there and they are cold after a short time.

You could look for gloves for hydro/electric workers? You might find something for people who work with frozen food/fish? Guess what popped up on the bottom if this page? Cryogenic-Gloves from www.cedarlanesshippingsupplies.ca

firheals. com just came up at the bottom of the page, for those with Raynaud's syndrome.
how about llbean |
for my chores i use mittens with the fingers in them then put jersey gloves inside
and then i can use the mitten or the just the fingers. they are really warm i bought mine at cabalas store. no wind gets through either. |
I don't know if you have tried any of these. The are pricey, at least to me, but if they fit & are warm, they would be worth it. Have you though about drawing his hand out on a piece of paper for a pattern & making him a inner-liner of jersey or cotton knit?

Thinsulate is what they put in winter clothes, etc. Could you make him some? I have no idea how difficult that would be.
We just purchased a 'glove' you wear inside of a regular glove that looks like it has sparkles in the material, but they are suppose to keep your hands extra warm. . . just found the name..... "starcrest of California" they list a Perris, CA address. Other than that, the only other thing I can think of is those 'hand warmers' you either put into your pockets or inside the gloves Good luck on your search. I know it's hard. My younger son is 6'6" and has huge hands. ps: if you want some thinsulate, I'm sure I have some I can share. PM me if you try to make him some. |
I haven't found any gloves that will keep hand warms in extreme cold, will keep hands dry and from freezing but not warm. DH uses the instant hand warmers in his gloves. They are cheap and each one lasts a long time. He is outside in extreme cold a lot. I put them in my coat pockets. They are in every vehicle and outside building we have. We buy them by the case at Walmart.

I would go to youtube and look for how to make a pair of gloves, and make a pair out of high quality polar fleece. They make one call "PolarTec" that is supposed to be just what you need. Put "Thinsulate" inside as lining as you make them, and treat both layers as one layer, by sewing each piece to it's lining piece before actual construction. I know there is a video there about making gloves by tracing your own hand...I just can't look for it right now, or I would post a link.

I would knit 2 pairs and try . If not warm enough stuff.

Have you looked at Carhartt gloves? They're made for rugged conditions.
