After a rash of home burglaries in our area, the latest next door over the weekend while we ourselves were out of town, DH and I have decided it is time for a home security system. I was looking at reviews online and, as usual, there are far more negative reviews than positive. If you have a home security system, will you please let me know if you're happy with it. What system do you have? Are all your entry points covered or only doors? We already have appointments with CPI and ADT. <<sigh>> I've always felt so safe here.

It's a sign of the time with so many out of work. My friend had ADT put in her place last year and has loved having it since she lives in the country.

We have ADT and are happy with it. They have some really good promotions with free instalation, etc. We got all doors covered and 2 motion detectors.
Myself and one neighbor had it and the neighbor on the other side got robbed. It does give you a sense of protection.

I would do the doors and windows... around here they aren't afraid to break glass :(

I love our ADT, although my local reps have now changed and the new ones are completely worthless.

But, the system works well and the few times we've needed it, it's done its job.

That's what we're thinking...and they did go thru the window next door, not a door. It's so sad. I was just visiting a childhood friend and we were reminiscing about the days of leaving the doors open at night for air circulation and the car keys were always in the ignition. We weren't sure why locks were on doors. Those were the days!

I would also think about motion detectors, that flash on lights as they sense motion and also put the pictures on a computer at home in a hidden, locked room.

I would also go to some security companies and ask their opinion.
My brother owns such and has firm ideas on what should be done. And I'd also think about inside hidden "nanny" cameras. They are tiny and easy to hide.

If I had some cash to spare, I'd put in new windows with metal guards on them if I lived in the country, and new doors with wood or plastic over metal, and bigger door sidings.

And if you have a garage that is connected to the house by a door, for goodness sake get a metal door with massive wood sides to fix it on. That is one of the favorite places to hide and break into a house.

Also, if you can possibly get along without them, GET RID OF YOUR DOGGY DOORS. Around here folks shove small children through them so the kid can open the door or window for dear old daddy and friends.

We have geo alarm. We ordered it off of the net, and my husband installed it. It was very easy to install, I could have done it, and I am very UNmechanical. We chose it because it had what ADT and others provided with a much cheaper monitoring fee. Our monitoring fee is $20 per month. We had to sign a 3 year contract, but that was no problem. We also have a system whereby it does not have to be connected to a land phone line, which prevents someone from cutting your lines. Our cost for the system was no more than ADT was charging. We have been very happy with it.
We had ADT at one time and were happy with it, it just costs more for the same service and the product is the same.

We did our doors, but not our windows because we have a motion detector. If thieves get in a window, the motion detector will go off. This saves money on not having to purchase contacts for all of the windows. They even have motion detectors that can accommodate pets. We had a cat with a motion detector. They also have ones for larger animals.
