Hornet invasion!
I've been chased out of my home because of hornets!I was away for about a half hour and my husband called to say there was a swarm in the living room. He sprayed and was swatting at one when the swatter went thru the ceiling..needless to say he ran! They ate thru the dry wall only the paint was holding them back! With the hole open it released the whole nest! I called today to have the outside sprayed...day late I guess! I'm sure they will have to knock down part of the ceiling as the trap to the attic is on the other end of the house! They will be out in the morning, we had been #9 on their list..this got us bumped up to 2!can't imagine what #1 is like! Staying at a hotel a few miles from home..tried to talk hubby into going back for my bathing suit but it was a big no.

Sounds nasty! I would be camped out at the motel too. We have a yellow jacket nest in an old stump in the backyard right now and I am staying away from it.
|
Wow. I thought they only built those funny looking nests in trees. I'm glad they didn't attack your hubby. I understand a lot of their stings to one person can be fatal. I hope you are able to go back home soon unless your insurance covers all your expenses and if so, enjoy your mini-vacation. LOL
|
Hope the bug people get you taken care of quickly! Hard to believe they can make such a mess. I suppose there is not a swim suit to be had in any store -- maybe around Christmas time.
|
There is a high school, in Central Florida, that is also overrun by hornets/bees nests.
|
Yikes!!! That's the stuff of nightmares right there!
I'm glad neither of you were harmed, but what a hassle!! |
Oh nasty, if your at the Holiday Dome I'll bring you a suit and a sewing machine.......stay safe

When I had an invasion of bees the bee expert told me to use a canister vacuum and suck them up.
It worked. They had built a nest inside the wall over my kitchen cabinets. |
I just heard about someone having bees in their guest room like that. Yikes!!
|
You poor thing! How awful. I don't recall ever hearing of such a bad hornet situation. We have a pest company spray outside every month to keep the hornets and spiders away.
|
One of my neighbors had the same thing happen in his master bedroom. Heard noise in the wall, tapped it & his hand went through the wall. He went through 3 different exterminators as he has several wall infested with yellow jackets. And then a was infestation on the opposite end of the house. I felt so bad for him as he is currently unemployed.
|
They, indeed, are invasive little devils.
|
wow, how awful! good luck and hope the problem is soon GONE

This might be called the year of the wasp....I had to knock down/spray to kill two nests in and on my pickup truck. One was inside the tail gate and another was in a small nook made by the tool chest and side of the truck...now when I go out to drive the truck I have to make a circuit to see I they have found another place to build their nest. These are paper wasps and I have discovered they can build a nest in very short time. Clever buggers, but I have been stung and it is not nice; so with respect I have a can of death that will spray up to a ten foot distance. Good by and go nest elsewhere....though not in the house thank you very much.

My friend was stung a couple of days ago by yellow jackets, for the 6th time this summer, so I spent yesterday trying to locate the nest. I think I found at least one of their hide outs, but sure there must be more seeing as she does have a LOT of junk in her backyard. When it gets cool, we are going to try cleaning her backyard. I just hope that her son is healthy enough by then to help. Right now he is dealing with cancer. With each sting, she seems to have a worse reaction and I'm afraid that she will have a more severe reaction eventually. I have encouraged her to talk with her doctor about having an epi-pen available if it does happen.
Hope you get your visitors taken care of real soon. Good luck. |

Hope theyre gone soon and you can get back into your home.
In the meantime .... http://www.theguardian.com/environme...oom-winchester I cannot for the life of me understand why you wouldnt look in a room, any room within your house for that long! |
Hope it gets resolved quickly. I had them in my bedroom wall! I could hear them buzzing and when I knocked on it they went crazy! Exterminator had to open up the drywall and got rid of them for me. Good luck.
|
My home has been invaded by fire ants. They are looking for water, wish this drought would break already!!
|
Exterminator came out and took the hive out of the attic. It was pretty big, Just fit in a five gallon bucket. He said he had the queen in the hive, then he put the cover on the bucket to smother the live hornets. Sprayed the attic and used his dry vac and cleaned up piles of dead hornets and left! Now I have a huge (covered) hole in my living room ceiling! Hopefully my son will fix that when they come for a visit. Glad to be home in my own bed and not worried about getting stung!
