I believe that this started in a Utah or Nevada horse show, or at least for the ones in our area. Several cases right around here.
Like she said, keep your large fur kids at home, don't allow any strangers who "LOVE HORSES" to touch them if they've been around others, especially in other states. I'm not too sure how this is passed, could be direct contact or air born, not too sure about that, but could be brought in on shoes or clothes. It's best to be sure. |

In Portland OR or 6pm news just reported it with warnings.
|
It can be pass through a horse sneezing, whinnying, or thru brushes or tack. It survives on tack, and anything that has been in contact with an infected horse should be destroyed. A person petting an infected horse, and then petting a healthy horse can spread the virus to the healthy horse.
It's wickedly nasty stuff, and I know of several rodeos that have been canceled because of it. |
Several rodeo/riding events have been cancelled here (Middle of BC). DIL has several horses and we sure hope nothing happens to them.

The Wiley City Rodeo this weekend has been postponed due to this... :-/

It is big news in our area and everyone is exercising extreme caution because we do have confirmed cases (our's also started with the Utah show). People are being asked not to transport their horses unless absolutely necessary.
