One of our ratties had a lot of skin allergies, itching, licking, etc. Changing her to a fish-based food with no grain, corn or potatos solved it. After a few months on the salmon and sweet potato food she was also tolerating mixing in other meats, but with sweet potato rather than the other above-mentioned grains. The brand we use is Natural Balance LID.

We give our dog Natural Balance Potato & Duck. DD recommended it 4-1/2 years ago and dog is doing very well.
