I've enjoyed the tips for cleaning grease off stovetops and also the tips for getting hard water buildup off of showers.
Does anyone have great ideas for cleaning the INSIDE of the oven? |
Don't use it!!
Sorry couldn't resist, but I actually know someone who doesn't use her oven 'cos it's too hard to clean. They cook everything outside on a huge barbeque. |
my grandmother passed down a simple way. I have not done it yet, but, my mother has and said she got good results.
Put a pan of boiled water in the oven and close the door, the water works as a steam, and should loosen splatters. Or do what I did, get a self cleaning one. LOL |
Also a dish of ammonia set in the oven overnight or I use easy off oven cleaner.

I use Dawn Power dissolver. I spray it on the inside of the oven, wait about 20 minutes and use a sponge with the green scrubby on the flip-side. And if it doesn't get it all off, I repeat the process.

Elbow grease, gloves, sponge, scrub brush, paint scraper and water. Easy for me because I'm all about prevention (own an antique). Don't let anything spill over. Ever. Don't let anyone else use your oven. :0D If a mess is somehow made, clean it asap.

Several Christmases ago I accidentally boiled over the baked sweet potatoes and the syrup caught fire. Yup christmas eve dinner, house full of people and smoke. DH put out the fire with wet dish towel, and wiped the whole thing down. It was the cleanest it had been since it was new. Wouldn't recommend cleaning this way though.

I seldom use mine, as I am allergic to all oven cleaners LOL
I will have to try that Dawn product :D:D:D |
Depends on what kind of oven it is....I'm a bit like Pookie...but if a disaster occurs I use a low toxicity cleaner, elbow grease and spread newspaper all around in case of drips. If your oven racks are a nightmare, get a big plastic bin bag (black or dark in colour, smother the racks in cloudy ammonia tie up the bag and leave in the sun for a couple of hours, then rinse...they really come up well. Be careful though...ammonia fumes are not good for you so maybe wear a mask and do use in a well ventilated area.

You mean you are expected to CLEAN them? Wooooah, I'd rather be quilting!!!

Reminds me of the first Thanksgiving my MIL came to dinner. A pin prick hole in the bottom of my disposable aluminum roaster leaked juices and grease which caught on fire in the oven. Extinquished fire with baking soda, but still had to bake pies in the smokey oven. MIL was very gracious about the entire episode. No more disposable roasting pans for me after that!!!

I bribe my hubby to do it....for a pan of brownies

I cheat, I have a lovely lady who comes in twice a year and dismantles the oven, cleans it and puts it back together, whilst entertaining me with the most amusing gossip. Between times I am careful about spillage and cook roasts in roasting bags.

I have a self-cleaning oven.... :) However, for the racks and drip pans, I do the ammonia in a garbage bag trick. After all these years of cleaning ovens, that's still the BEST and CHEAPEST solution!
