I'd read a suggestion somewhere that it's time to plant peas when the forsythia is in full bloom. I've been doing that the last couple of years and it seems to have been working out well. It seems to make better sense than "plant peas on Good Friday" because that moves around every year!

How you YOU decide when it's time to plant your seeds?

I read recently to plant peas by president's day- which worked well here, we get pretty mild weather in feb. so my peas are about 2 inches tall now. Last year I didn't plant them until mothers day and that was way too late.

My Grandma would plant peas when the Oak leaves were the size of a squirrel's paw and during a full moon. Underground things were planted during the dark of the moon. There's a lot more to this but that is what I remember at this time.

Since what she planted had to feed the family for a long time, she had to do things right.

 I ask my Mama.

She also helps me find the good white chicken at buffets because I can never tell.

Maybe I should consider growing up.

English peas should be planted by the 3rd week in Jan. and blackeyed,or purple hull peas around the first week of April. I would think it might vary a little depending on where you live. We already have everything in the ground and it is all looking good.

Must be nice to be able to plant something in January! That's the coldest part of the year.

I suppose summertime weather where you are must be the tradeoff!
