I bought 2 roses for the garden. I read the "General Rose care" on the back. Here's the instructions -- PLEASE help me understand what to do!!!
Water Water daily twice each week until established then was as needed. ????? daily twice a week????? |
Something was lost in translation, I think.
|
Maybe they mean to water in the daytime rather in the evening. Just a thought.
|
With mine I fill the hole with water when I plant them , then water during the day as I was told if you water in the evening and the leaves stay damp in the evening they can get a fungus on the leaves . I water about every other day .
As for your instructions    What were they thinking ! LOL What ever happened to quality control ? |
:?
|
I think it meant daily, THEN twice a week untill established.
|
I recently took a class on growing roses and I was told to give them an inch of water once a week.
|
My sister and I shared some chicken pot pies one day last week. The little packets with the pies in them had instructions that said "open both ends first". Huh???

I planted a lot of rose bushes given to me by a good intention friend. I didn't do anything to them but put them in a hole. They are thriving and I have to cut them back. I don't like roses bushes at all but love the roses. My friend asked me what I do to keep them so healthy. I said I told them to grow or go.

Water daily, twice ---2 times a day? Do this each week until well established?
|
were your Roses bareroot or planted in a pot, when you bought them? If they are bareroot, they will need more water, than if they were potted. Watering depends alot on your climate, how much rain you get and how warm it is. Overall, roses take a lot of water, it is hard to overwater them, unless you have alot of clay in your soil. Do water in the morning, as already suggested, so the leaves will dry. You might guess by my user name, that I love growing roses, I also worked for years at a landscape nursery, and was know as the "roselady". If I can help some more, feel free to ask.

Water daily twice each week until established then was as needed. ????? daily twice a week?????[/quote] It must have been packaged in a 3rd world country that doesn't speak English |
Those are strange and confusing directions.
|
it should read water 2 times a day for a week? Penny
|
This is what I have always heard. But it was water daily for a week then twice a week until established. What it does is to get the plant used to a new home and keep plant moist for the first week to help it thru shock of planting. Then twice a week till established so you don't drown it and start root rot.
I suggest you contact the company for clarification or a good nursery for good instructions.

Was the directions translated from another language?
|
They didn't seem to be! The directions are very sparse...LOL The packaging says it's a Hybrid tea called "Oklahoma" (the state flower for Oklahoma!). It was packaged in Tyler, Texas.

As a nurseryman's wife, I was a total failure at liking roses
and orchids!! But I do love the old climbing ones, that are never seen any more. None seem to have an odor that I remember from my childhood in WV. Be sure to add Epsom Salt to the soil..not a sodium but a good source of magnesium, our nursery ordered it in 50 pound bags and used it in all pots we sold. Water in the early day but don't spray the leaves, and remember the old finger trick to check after they start growing new leaves. No plant likes to sit in water, but do like moist soil. I always mixed the soil around the roots with rotted sawdust, a little peat moss, a little cat litter (NEW) remember, it's made to hold moisture! And a little bit of rotted leaves, then I stamp it down tight and water. FAR too many of my plants live...I've gotta get rid of some this summer..yard sale, here I come!! |
good luck with your roses
