We celebrated a co-workers bd today-age 54. We range in age from 35 to 65 and we started talking about how much "younger" we are than when our moms or grandmas were our age and what we do they didn't do. For example: water ski, rock climb, ballroom dance, motorcycle (me) and some other stuff. The biggest thing was we all still wear blue jeans--none of us can picture our moms/grandmas in blue jeans. So the question came up: how old is too old to wear jeans?? Our consensus was NEVER!! I'd be really interested in what you all think (of course every generation thinks they're younger than the previous.) I'll pass on your comments to my co-workers. Thanks for your answers-
Peace-Jan
PS: this is all in fun and I hope I don't offend anyone. I'm also not telling you MY age!!

joeyoz 10-02-2009 06:39 PM

I agree with NEVER!!! You're only as old as you feel. My mind thinks I'm still 30, but my body keeps thinking it it older than Methuzela. LOL

I'm turning 50 in May and I don't care who knows. I MADE IT TO 50 WORLD. hehehehehe

barnbum 10-02-2009 06:44 PM

Hey, Joeyoz--I'LL be 50 in May, too!! I wore jeans to school today. I truly didn't know there was such a thing as "too old for jeans." Kind of a sad phrase.... so let's get rid of it!!

I'm with you. Let's get rid of it. No more "Too Old For Jeans". hehehe

renee765 10-02-2009 06:49 PM

I'll be 59 next month (yikes!) and I'm certainly not ready to give up my jeans!

joeyoz 10-02-2009 06:52 PM

My dad is 75 and my mom is 73. They still wear jeans.

janRN 10-02-2009 07:05 PM

This is really weird. My mom will be 86 this month and she has never worn slacks!! She wears what she calls "house dresses". She had a very strict Italian dad and his daughters were not allowed to wear slacks. She never did although her younger sister (age 84) does. Maybe that's why I only own two dresses. My closet only has uniforms and jeans. Thanks -you guys are a hoot. I'm so glad no one's offended by this; I just needed some fun stuff after a crappy (flu season at the office) kind of day.

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 10-02-2009 08:19 PM

If I get too old to wear jeans, I'll be pretty much naked. I own 3 pairs of jeans and 3 pairs of yoga pants. I think I still have one pair of "slacks" for funerals. I hope they go with Nikes or flip flops because that's the only shoes I own these days.

My personal policy is "if it aint comfortable I aint wearing it". Panty hose, high heels, push-up bras, and such fall directly into the aint comfortable category.

Lisanne 10-02-2009 08:51 PM

You're never too old to wear jeans, but... teens call our jeans "Mom jeans." Our jeans are uncool to them. (IMO, most of their fashions are uncool to me, so we're even.)

I would say you're too old for their super low-rise jeans once your belly starts to sag. That could be at 30 or 40 - or 12.

tlrnhi 10-02-2009 08:52 PM

My mom NEVER wore jeans. She wore house dresses or nice slacks.
She never wore makeup unless it was lipstick. That was it! Just strange, was just how she was.
I, on the other hand, I wear jeans everyday! Barefoot unless I have to go to the store and then it's sandels. If I have to put shoes/sneakers on, my feet yell and scream at me.
I do dress up once in a while, but after about an hour of those shoes on my feet, off they come!

Too old for jeans? NEVER!!!
I have cool jeans. My girls make sure I wear them. The only ones that fit me proper are Old Navy, so that's what I buy. My girls make sure there's no "muffin top" sticking out...that's not cool on anyone. lol
The girls make sure Mom is dressed properly and isn't embarrassing them. lol

MadQuilter 10-02-2009 09:10 PM

Perfect answer: NEVER!

My mom will be 93 on Oct 6 and she still wears jeans.

Joan 10-03-2009 06:20 AM

I'm not EVER giving up my jeans........

that's my two cents worth!

lfw045 10-03-2009 06:45 AM

Jeans forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lol!

QuiltMania 10-03-2009 06:53 AM

As long as you're still vertical and not covered with dirt, you're young enough to wear jeans.

amandasgramma 10-03-2009 07:15 AM

NEVER too old!! I have a friend who is 74 yrs old. She wears cut-offs (for you yound ones -- cut-offs are jeans that are cut off and the legs rolled up --shorts). My only problem with her wearing those ----I'm JEALOUS!!! She's got a great figure!!!

beachlady 10-03-2009 08:22 AM

Never too old for jeans. One thing some might be too old for are mini skirts and a bikini. Know I am!

amma 10-03-2009 09:13 AM

I will probably be buried in jeans!!!
My mom never wore jeans, she does wear slacks or elastic waisted pants.

I have an old friend who is 68 and she has never worn jeans. She didn't wear sneakers until a few years ago when she fell off her mules and broke her foot. I took aerobics with her and she had on those darn mules. I couldn't believe she could move in those things. LOL.

zennia 10-03-2009 02:29 PM

At one time I thought i was to old for jeans so stopped wearing them for a while but now I am over that and live in them. Funny about our moms. Mine didnt start wearing then until in her 70's then she lived in them. i sometimes wondered if she owned any other clothes.
Remember--we are only as old as we think we are.

pal 10-03-2009 03:36 PM

Wait a minute - if you don't wear jeans what the heck do you wear????

Aren't jeans just denim slacks? So how could you be too old for

denim slacks? It sure beats a purple dress with a red hat!

LMAO!!! My sentiments exactly.

I am 75 and wear jeans all time. And decent shorts in the summer. You are as young as you feel.

Edie 10-04-2009 05:04 AM

I'd say never - I am 71, wear tank tops, and when the jeans have the holes in the knees, I cut them off - VOILA! cutoffs! Hey, you are as young as you feel. Besides, if it feels good - do it! And I feel good, comfortable and relaxed in jeans - however, I opt for the elastic waist! Edie

carrieg 10-04-2009 05:23 AM

I'd rather see an 'old lady' in well fitting jeans than a twenty-something with a muffin roll hanging over poorly fitting anything! LOL

My mom is 80 and wears jeans.

MollieSue 10-04-2009 05:39 AM

I'll be 51 in February, and jeans is all I wear!!!!
And my daughter got me switched to 'boot cuts', instead of my straight leg ones! lol!!!!!

bearisgray 10-05-2009 06:26 AM

I think it depends more on the shape of the body than the age of the body.

Edie 10-05-2009 06:41 AM

WEre you talking about me? For all intents and purposes I should be the last person on this earth in a pair of jeans! But, they are comfortable, don't show the dirt and you don't have to iron them. I have heard you shouldn't because it wears out the thread in the denim. Makes sense to me! I am the justification queen of all things!!!!

Inver Grove Heights is a hop, skip and jump from us. Nice to talk to someone who is so close. I am in the Macalester Groveland area. Edie

bearisgray 10-05-2009 07:14 AM

Hey - I'm not gonna call any kettle black!

Once upon a time I had a nice shape - now I just have a shape!

Comfort is the number one priority - but my nightie just isn't suitable for going out shopping in

:?

Its just a pair of pants...For the first about 16 years of life The thing was ladies and girls in dresses. I can remember ..." keep your legs together." As the dresses got to be less and less...it was put on a pair of pants and look and act like a lady..so I did and never looked back....thats my story and I'm sticking to it... I will be 64 this month :D

you pick your pants for the task at hand... jeans and sweats..house and yard stufff...short pants beach and recreation. dress pants church and parties, and dr visits

mrs theo 10-05-2009 11:32 AM

I just turned 50 in September and I will wear jeans until the day I can no longer choose clothes, maybe beyond :) My ex mother-in-law wore dresses every day from the day I met her until my father-in-law died when she was in her late 60's. I swear it wasn't a week past the funeral when she went out and bought some jeans and other slacks. She also had her hair cut short and styled very smartly. It turned out that she wasn't "allowed" to wear pants or cut her hair!!! I think many women of her age were brought up to believe it was un-ladylike to wear slacks and the men they married (some, I hate to generalize) enforced that belief.

adrianlee 10-06-2009 05:24 PM

Never too old for jeans. I'll be 66 this coming December. My issue is I think something has happened to the gravity of this planet. As I've gotten older, the bottom part of my womanly "pear" shape has also increased. Could be because I really enjoy food and God gave me these excellent taste buds that I put into practice every day, but I really think something is wrong with the planet.

May in Jersey 10-07-2009 09:53 PM

Never! I'm 73 and wear them all the time. My shape is just a big shape and I don't wear tight jeans, but they're jeans none the less. My jeans have elastic waistbands for comfort but lately they all seem to be extra long, guess I'm supposed to be wearing my stilleto high heels with them instead of my crappy old sandels, LOL!

Had to laugh about the mothers who wore house dresses. My mother did and made my sisters and I wear them, we couldn't get "dressed" until we finished our house work in our pjs or house dresses. Boy how times have changed. My mother did begin wearing pants once in awhile about a year or so before she passed away at 70, she said her legs were cold. May in Jersey

Shemjo 10-08-2009 04:50 PM

I wear Khakis (sp) and will wear them until I can't dress myself! They are my jeans of choice. I certanly remember my grandmother wearing her dresses at home, but when she travelled, she wore slacks!

pal 10-08-2009 06:01 PM

My Dear MIL (age 102 this month) asked me to buy her some cordoroy
slacks (her first time with pants) because her legs get cold, and
Mrs. (whoever) always looks so nice in them. O.K. I always wear
slacks too - but Mrs. (whoever) always looks so nice in them.

What am I - dirt? Oh, well................... Guess I'd better LOL!
