Can you identify whether these ten e-mails are legit or whether they're phishing for your personal information?

Post your score, if you like. Hope to see a lot of 10's!

DogHouseMom 09-15-2011 06:36 PM

I would disagree with a couple they score as legitimate - even their explanations still show that the information isn't reliably from the sender, nor usual communication from the sending organization.

In every case, my recommendation to staff and our customers, is to NEVER click links in email. ALWAYS either use a bookmark (that you created by typing in the site originally), or type in the web address. Same with phone numbers - if you don't already know the number, look it up in the phone book (or internet directory).

If there is a problem with your account, your will not get an email, you will get a phone call.

I got 100 per cent, surprised myself.

irishrose 09-15-2011 06:55 PM

I scored 100%, too. The obvious ones were 'click here'. I know to never do that.

Cosy 09-15-2011 07:02 PM

90%...but thought legit bad, but the quiz warned to be cautious about the very issue I thought was problematic. go figure

I'm still broke, though.

My DH fell for the Nigerian scam a feww yrs ago. I stll get an occasional e-mail from them

luckylindy333 09-15-2011 07:43 PM

I got 80%, missed one phish and called one legit fake. I would never click on any link that came from an email and claimed to take me to paypal or my credit card company or bank. Someone got into my bank account a few years ago, and I had to sign a bunch of paperwork at my bank. I was not charged for any of the fake charges, though, and a couple of them were several hundred dollars. I finally figured out it was from something I bought on line. The company sent me an email telling me their accounts had been compromised. My DS told me right then I should have closed my bank account. Live and learn!

Thanks, moonrise!

Jim's Gem 09-15-2011 07:53 PM

I only got 70%.

Actually, last week we got a phone call and an e-mail from our Amex cardholder with a suspected fraudulent charge. It was definitely legit. The e-mail came in just after the phone call but it was my husbands card. They called again a little later and he took the call.

I missed one so got 9 out of 10 or 90%. I called one phishing that was legit. Better to be safe than sorry.

bodie358 09-15-2011 08:33 PM

10 out of 10 right.

this is my thought as well. i got two wrong only because there were links in the email. i never trust links in the email. i'd rather be safe than sorry.,

loves_2_quilt 09-16-2011 06:09 AM

I got 2 wrong

annthreecats 09-16-2011 06:14 AM

I got two wrong out of ten. I better be careful.

New Quilter 09-16-2011 08:24 AM

hmmm I got the one wrong about the Discover card...I said it was Phishing, they said it was wrong, but then when I clicked on "why" all of their answers seemed to indicate that it was Phishing...I must not be understanding something there...lol...Naomi
