Our beans are finally done, we have tomatoes ripening now and the pumpkin pie pumpkins are already turning orange. We got red potatoes and I am waiting to pick my red sweet corn (can't wait to try that).

But the heat has been hard on gardening here. But fall is in the air.

We didn't want to feed the deer this year. We didn't get anything the last time we planted one. The deer even ate my green tomatoes that year. We have a lot of vegetable stands and farm markets around so I buy what we need.

Our garden is doing ok...plenty of green beans and tomatoes. Cukes and zukes did not do so well...plants died right after we would pick. Any idea why? Green peppers are not getting big. We went through several weeks of no rain and above 90 degree temps here in central IN...we did water, but probably not like we should've. I have canned/frozen stuff till I am not going to do anymore.

Did not have any sweet corn this year. My brother and my son (farmers) always put out some at the edge of a field. Due to rainy spring they had to plant a short season variety...then it turned off dry and hot...sweet corn just did not do well. Then the raccoons got what there was. Darn.

My flowers have not done so well. Between the dog trying to get to a snake that took up residence in one flower bed and the hot/dry summer, they are looking really, really bad. Over Labor Day weekend, I will pull out my annuals and put some mums in place of them. I have mercy-killed my hanging baskets. 23 days straight of 90+ temps was just too much for them. I got so tired of carrying water to them every day (and we do not have water spigot at the front of the house).

I have a gazillion green tomatoes of various varieties. Hopefully, the will ripen soon, so I can get to canning. If they take forever, I will just have to make some fried green tomatoes ( my all time favorite with garlic aiolli)

Denise, have you ever made green tomato relish, it is excellent, in case you end up with a big crop of green tomatoes.

Basically everything is gone for this year, except for a few annuals in pots. But we did have peas, lima beans, corn, tomatoes, and a few cucumbers.
