In a hurry!

This is what happens when you are in a hurry making Christmas Cookies, and you turn on the mixer full blast with all the dry ingredients on the top.

lberna 12-17-2021 03:15 AM

Been there, done that. 😂

WMUTeach 12-17-2021 04:09 AM

I wonder how many of us have NOT done this. I was baking something a couple of weeks ago and in the recipe it even told the user to not turn the mixer on high because the dry ingredients will create flour dust all over your kitchen. Guess someone learned by experience. :) But you were prepared with those bleach wipes sitting in the ready to clean up your work area!. One must look on the bright side in times of flour explosions. ;)

I did that with wet ingredients and ended up wiping everything from the ceiling to the bottom of my shoes (yes I know some people are barefoot all the time)

Oh yeah, that looks familiar:)

That is one reason I have next to nothing on the countertops. LOL Easier to clean up my messes. The biggest hassle to clean I had in the kitchen was dropping a full large container of peppercorns. They ran everywhere and under everything and into everything.

ptquilts 12-17-2021 05:10 AM

I can relate to that!! Been making cookies the past few days. In my little kitchen where I have about 18" x 24" of counter space available for rolling out cookies.
My counter is L-shaped and I swear there is a "food magnet" on the floor beneath the L. Every time I am doing something there, some food winds up on the floor.
I also overcooked (a little) some shortbread cookies yesterday when a friend dropped by just as they were done and I got distracted. Still sending them to my sister, she won't mind.

Ha ha oh my

Tartan 12-17-2021 05:26 AM

Opps! Being in a hurry usually takes longer in the long run.

Macybaby 12-17-2021 07:28 AM

I have a clear shield that goes over the mixing bowl, and that really helps. It has a spout area to add ingredients as you are mixing.

I'll be doing most of my Christmas baking this weekend, I expect a lot of messes!

SallyS 12-17-2021 10:09 AM

Sewingsuz, that post was such a comfort. I've been doing more and more of that kind of thing, thinking all kinds of bad things about myself, so thank you for making me feel better. My training was as a home economist, when we were supposed to multi-task. Bad idea now.

Chasing Hawk 12-17-2021 11:21 AM

I am guilty of that even after reading the manual...lol

Giggles!

I just splattered butter and sugar all over. I was trying to make cookies not messes!

sewingsuz 12-17-2021 05:32 PM

I put the plastic shields on after I made the mess! I just cleaned up the mess a little while ago. When I was younger I would have never gone to bed with my kitchen in such a mess. I was tired. This was my last of 6 batches of cookies and candy.

We will have to see how my kitchen looks tomorrow night! My 15 yo GS is coming over to continue the Christmas Cookie baking tradition. He called to remind me he was coming at 11:00, and be sure to have hot chocolate ready! Sugar cookies with sprinkles and red and green sugar, peanut butter blossoms, and gingerbread cookies are on the agenda.

SusieQOH 12-18-2021 06:36 AM

Oh Suz! I can relate haha!!

sewingitalltogether 12-18-2021 08:31 AM

Oh, that looks familiar. My kitchen is spread with flour, sticky frosting and sprinkles. Merry Christmas!

Feather3 12-18-2021 10:01 AM

I just did that 2 days ago mixing cookies & I had the shield on. I had flour everywhere, including on my toes. My husband, being the great guy he is, cleaned it up for me.

On another note he told me this morning that peanut butter cookies help with nausea & if he eats 2 cookies every 20 minutes he feels better, LOL. He wanted to know if I would make a 2nd batch. I do a double batch anyway, so it'd be a 2nd double batch. Men!!

joyce blint 12-18-2021 12:32 PM

That could have been my kitchen last week, floor included. It all wipes up, thank goodness.

RedGarnet222 12-18-2021 01:43 PM

Thanks for the heads up, suz. I am finished with the candies and Burbon balls and now I will start the cookies. A good reminder to go slow to get it incorporated first. Poor baby, I hope the rest goes better for you.
I will pull out the brown bag cookie molds and see which ones to use this year. I love using them.

Update:

We made 16 dozen cookies! We added chocolate chip cookies to the mix. All in all not too bad. Only three cookies hit the floor, and a slight mishap with flour while doing the sugar cookies. He was pretty impressed that he mastered getting the trays in and out of the oven by himself. Grandma on the other hand was hovering, just in case!

lynnie 12-20-2021 07:53 AM

I have to laugh, we've all been in your position at least once in our baking lives

sewingsuz 12-22-2021 08:19 PM

I will have given 6 friends and family some cookies. Not too much left. Just for a week or two.

Fizzle 12-23-2021 07:18 AM

Sewingsuz, I feel your pain! And now add 3 young grandkids to the mix!!

luckily the fun times and the yummy treats outweigh the mess!

juliasb 12-23-2021 12:07 PM

Oh How I have done that and hated doing it. That clean up is no fun.
