My husband and I love cruising. We are leaving Sat. for a cruise to Alaska. This is our big vacation and last big trip before school starts for me on Aug. 29. We have done the Caribbean and Mexico cruises. This is our most favorite way to travel. Only advice I give first time cruisers is not to overpack. Have fun and relax.

We have been on three cruises and loved everyone one of them. Also was to Alaska, you will enjoy that,we were on land for three days and then on the cruise for the rest of the time.

congrats. we are leaving next week for a 7 day cruise to the carribbean. We love cruising no cooking, making beds driving. Just relaxing. This is the only kind of vacation that I get to relax. Nice to know that everything is included. That way you can relax and know that you have no suprises Good luck and enjoy. Cookie

how great. i have always wanted to go on one and have been seriously considering it next year. i would love the alaska cruise. i hope yous ee the northern lights while you are there. have a splendid time!

We went on our first cruise a couple of years ago. LOVED it and want to go again.
I learned the trick to eating anything and everything and only gaining 4 pounds! WALK! I walked from one end of the ship to the other over and over and over again. Both outside and inside, up and down all the flights of stairs each time! We had an inside room and I'm a bit claustrophobic so could only spend enough time in there to sleep at night, or change clothes. The only thing I didn't like was the gambling area as it was the only place on the ship that smoking was allowed and I can't breath around that. So avoided that area as much as possible. We are planning to go again - hopefully next year sometime. Have fun and don't forget to take your camera! |

I am very happy for you! An unforgettable experience! I assure you! I did a cruise Christmas-New Year for our wedding trip in 1996 ... and I assure you I remember every single day! And a fact ... You eat 6 times a day ... but it will end the cruise with less weight than up! Because you will be moving all day, lots of fruit available and the dishes are small! Ah ... if ... try a Malbec Argentino! Insurance will enjoy and remember me! Hahaha! Enjoy every moment! A hug! |

I'm so happy for you!!!! You are going to LOVE cruising to Alaska!!! It's an absolutely glorious trip!! ;) ;) How long is your cruise? Once you get to Alaska, are you going to do what is a called a land cruise, too? We sailed with Princess Cruise Lines and did a land cruise up to Fairbanks, Denali and then came back to Anchorage where we boarded out flight home. 8-)

Enquiring minds want to know. My sister and I have been discussing going on a cruise. We've already found a nice vet to board our cats. |

We've already found a nice vet to board our cats.[/quote] We went to the Caribbean so our "dress code" was shorts, polos or tshirts and sandals or sneakers (or water shoes!) every day. When we "dressed up", we wore nice slacks and a shirt. The dress code for dressy nights basically said "no jeans, collared shirts and no flipflops" but some ladies were in beautiful gowns and the gentlemen in tuxes. To each, their own. Check the website for your cruise line about clothes; they all differ. We were on Carnival. Oh---and not sure we're "older"---but we are both 49. |
Alaska is so beautiful! I took a book with me and didn't read one chaoter as evry 5 minutes the scenery changed. Take layers to dress in during the day as it can be windy and cool. You documents should tell you the dress code for dinner time. Try to get close to the glaciers as they are geting smaller every day. Just enjoy!!

We are really studying all the excursion info to make the best choices at each port. Not near enough time, so I want to be sure to do the best excursions. Also, now I am trying to think of what clothes I need to buy. We live in So. CA so we really don't have a lot of winter clothes. |

We've already found a nice vet to board our cats.[/quote] The dress code for Regent Seven Seas is "elegant casual" What this means is that during the day shorts, sandals, jeans, baseball caps are acceptable. After 6pm. they ask that men dress in collared shirts and slacks (sports coat is optional), and that ladies dress in a skirt/blouse, dress, or nice pantsuit. This code applies to the restaurant, lounge, club, and casino area. They do not have "formal nights" so formals and tuxes are not required. Of course suits, and cocktail dresses are acceptable. My husband and I are very casual people so a sport coat for him, and a dress for me is probably the most we will do. Up on deck, or by the pool, or by the outdoor restaurants casual wear (jeans, shorts etc) are allowed 24 hrs. a day. |

So when we went on our first cruise together my hubby insisted that I didn't need to buy anything. I was so apprehensive. I get sick on swings, car rides, everything. When we got on the boat one of the first things he did was hunt down those special pills they had on the boat for me lol. They worked. Not sure what they are. He is convinced that it was something totally different then what you can buy since his mom was so sick and they made her SOOO much better when the other stuff didn't. On a side note: I LOVED our cruise! We went as a homecoming trip when my husband came home from Iraq. It was wonderful. So much fun. And the all inclusive is very nice. Having almost everything already paid for makes you vacation easy. You don't have to worry about how quickly everything is adding up! I would go again in a heart beat! I just finished a 7 day cruise. I have to say that my Husband and I were disappointed in the excursions in Juneau and Ketchecan. The guides were young college kids who were doing it for the summer and could have cared less. In Juneau, we did the glacier and gardens. You can do the glacier on your own. My family members that went with us went on a bus from the port. In Sitka, we did the walking historic tour and had a great guide. Ketchecan was such a short time that I would have just walked around. It was very rainy and cold. Whatever you decide to do, remember to always wear comfortable shoes what you would wear during cold wet weather of winter. I wished that I had taken my hiking boots to keep my feet dry and warm. Email me privately if you want any more scoop. I just did the cruise so it is very fresh in my mind.

Just wanted to update this post. We went on our Alaskan cruise and had a great time. We visited Ketchikan and went on a rain forest adventure excursion. Then on to Juneau where we took a double decker catamaran through Tracy Arm Fjord to see the Sawyer Glacier. On to Skagway where we took the White Pass Scenic Train. Next stop was Sitka where we went on a Sea Otter and Wildlife Adventure on another double decker catamaran. Last day we cruised by the Hubbard Glacier...so beautiful...magestic!
The ship was great. It is a small ship; 490 passengers max. It never felt crowded, never a long line, and the service was incredible. The food was very good which is high praise from me because I am a foodie and love to cook. The weather was great too. We saw orcas, humpback whales, sea otters, bald eagles, puffins, black bears, grizzly bear family (mom, dad, two cubs), and moose. Alaska really is beautiful....such a great trip. P.s. Skagway had a great quilt shop. The quilt shop in Sitka was pricey. |
We took a cruse to Alaska 2 yrs ago. If you are not BIG drinkers forgo the drink ticket. We did just fine w/out it. We would go to what ever town we were at and find the liquor store and buy wine for "Happy Hour" before we went to dinner. There were 10 of us traveling together. Take the Zip Ride if you get the chance, it was great!!

Layer, Layer, Layer, even for your head. It get COLD near the glaciers and when out at sea. We had a balcony w/sliding doors, that was great. I wore my Gortex hiking boots on shore and dress shoes on ship. Get some gloves and fleece earmuffs.
