I did it!!!!!

Today I turned in my retirement notice. Bad news is that I have to give a 6 mo. notice.
Boy is this going to be a long 6 months! I told my DH we need to plan a trip to leave on August 22 (last day is August 21) so I have something to plan for in the next 6 months. Just think how many quilts I'll be able to do now. yippee!

ktbb 02-25-2013 01:14 PM

congratulations - retirement is a great life. However, I don't get nearly as much sewing done as I'd thought since there are so many other things that I can do now that I'm retired.

Chasing Hawk 02-25-2013 01:14 PM

Congrats !!

August is kinda warm for a trip.....maybe someplace cooler like the inside of a few quilt shops.....haha

barny 02-25-2013 01:16 PM

Good for you! Now you'll have something to plan for. It will be a long 6 months. But you will do it.

TanyaL 02-25-2013 01:33 PM

How many quilt shops in Europe?

luvstoquilt 02-25-2013 01:46 PM

Good for you! I did that 3 1/2 years ago and I haven't looked back...busier now than ever for sure!

momto5 02-25-2013 04:21 PM

I retired six years ago....if they would just increase the number of hours in a day to 48, I might make some headway! What kind of work do you do that requires that long a notice? OUCH!

QuiltingVagabond 02-25-2013 05:10 PM

Congrats!!

EllieGirl 02-25-2013 05:41 PM

Congratulations!! Retirement is wonderful! Enjoy it!

nativetexan 02-25-2013 06:04 PM

boy if you weren't all the way in Wisconsin I'd come work your last six months for you. Have loads of fun being "retired".

Tothill 02-25-2013 06:27 PM

Good for you. I have another 20 years before I can retire and 2 years before I can reduce my work week to 5 days a week from 6.

The first thing on my bucket list is a sewing retreat in 3 years.

donnalynett 02-25-2013 06:50 PM

Congrats! Retirement is the best job I've ever had......

retrogirl02 02-25-2013 07:02 PM

Congratulations!!

zzmom 02-25-2013 07:20 PM

Congratulations on your impending retirement! How exciting! I am dreaming of the day I get to give my retirement notice too:) Enjoy your increased quilting time!

MaryKatherine 02-26-2013 04:20 AM

I'm eligible for my full govmt. pension in 23 days! I'm not resigning my part time job though until I see if we can live on our combined pensions. Wouldn't it be wonderful if I could use all my work income as MAD money? I'd actually be happy to go to work.

I gave 4 months notice when I retired in Aug. 2009. The time flew by with so much to do finding a replacement and training her. Happy retirement! It's so great!

MS quilter 02-26-2013 06:42 AM

Congrats! I hope you will enjoy yours as much as I have mine! I love it!

maryb119 02-26-2013 08:12 AM

Enjoy your retirement! I am looking forward to the time when I can retire. I have so many things planned that I want to do.

linda faye 02-26-2013 09:53 AM

I retired November 2009. I gave a three month notice. The time did go by quickly and I have never looked back. The time was right for me.

Congratulations and enjoy!

IBQUILTIN 02-26-2013 10:14 AM

Retirement is wonderful. It seems I have less time to get things done than when I was working. It must be I'm not as organized, but there are at least two days a week I can devote to quilting. I love it and you will too. Congrats

caspharm 02-26-2013 10:22 AM

Congrats! I have retired twice now, but will probably take a part-time job at some point just as something else. I'm still not getting as much done quilting wise as I want (other things come up and I let them distract me). :)

Jingle 02-26-2013 11:23 AM

I retired for a year and decided I was too young and went back to work. Been almost 2 years back at work. Doubt I ever retire for good. My Husband has no plans to retire.

You stole my line..............I thought I was the only one who said that !!!!! LOL Truthfully, IT IS the best job I ever had.

csharp 02-26-2013 01:29 PM

Good for you...time will go faster than you think. I gave a year's notice, but also reduced my work week to 3 days a week...no Monday's or Friday's...I had a really great employer. Now my full time job is taking care of my husband, and I took up quilting after retirement to fill the gap of so much working with computers. Love the quilting...now got 6 vintage machines and 2 fancy computerized ones. This place has been my "university of choice" since then although I was inspired by a really good friend who took me to my first quilt show. Hope you have lots of good times ahead.

Mariposa 02-26-2013 01:35 PM

Congrats! Your 6 mos. will go quicker than you think. Keep dreaming of all the things you can do with your free time~~~

thequilteddove 02-26-2013 01:48 PM

Congrats! You'll be surprized at how little free time you have when you're retired lol So much to do, so little time!

richardswife 02-26-2013 02:32 PM

I so agree with you.

jeanharville 02-26-2013 02:52 PM

I love being retired, but don't get as much sewing and quilting done as I had planned. Why? Because I spend too much time on the QB, Facebook, and Pinterest and crocheting. It's wonderful to stay up until midnight and sleep until 8:30 or 9:00 and nobody cares. I can be as energetic or lazy as I wana be. :)

Judith1005 02-26-2013 02:55 PM

congrats!!! It will be here before you know it. Enjoy your retirement. :D

BCM 02-26-2013 03:16 PM

I ditto all the expressions regarding the joy, fun and adventure you have to look forward to in the near future.

nvb50 02-26-2013 06:11 PM

I know how you feel. I retire at the end of March and that seems forever. I have been counting the days for the last 3 months. I now have 19 working days left as I have every Monday off in March. Good luck to you.

Nammie to 7 02-26-2013 08:26 PM

By this time you should be happily retired. It is the best thing I've ever done for myself! I usually sew at least 20 hours a week - it is still the best way to relax!

cathyvv 02-26-2013 08:30 PM

The time will fly and 8/21 will be here before you know it.

After 5 years of retirement, I can honestly say that I have not regretted being retired for one single minute. I wish you all the joys of your future retirement.

katesnanna 02-27-2013 04:08 AM

Congratulations! Retirement- can't beat it.

OOOOhhh I have to agree with Chasing Hawk ... LOL

LenaBeena 02-27-2013 05:22 PM

Be careful! I'm so busy in retirement I'll need another lifetime to get caught up :)
