I was reading some of the notes some of us had put into the Quilting Board. "Look what I won". So, I clicked to see what she had won - It came up with the most pornographic photographs I have ever seen in all my life. I don't think she won that. I clicked off and up came the picture of a quilt. Where in God's name do these things come from. Never in a million years did I ever think I would look at a picture of a quilt and see pictures of men and women in porno photographs. I mean they were the true description of pornography.

Oh yes, with pictures like these, I am the epitome of prude!

What can we do to keep this crap out of here? Edie

Ewe, must be encrypted. Check with someone to see how you can block garbage like that. My son set up my computers and I have no idea how to prevent that but I know there is something.

I don't know what we can do. But, I am so sorry that happened to you. I know I wouldn't want it to happen to me.

If you remember the screen name, or post name let the Administrator know. It happened to me a while back. Apparently, someone hasn't anything better to do with their life.

Edie,
I'm so sick you were exposed to something like this!
But I have been on the internet for nearly 20 years and have rarely seen this sort of thing because I make sure the settings within my computer catch most of it before it comes through to me.
Try this:
On the lower left of your screen, click on START
Click on MY COMPUTER.
Click on Internet Options.
Click on PRIVACY in the little blue tabs along the top of that little window.
Under the first section, click on the little bar that slides up and down and move it to the 4th-from-the-bottom position where it will read "medium high".
In the next section in that same window, where it says SETTINGS or Pop up blocker, check the little box to prevent most popups from appearing on your screen.
In the next section marked InPrivate, at the bottom of the little window, click the "Disable toolbars and extensions..." box.
You're done. You *may* have to restart your computer for these changes to take effect, but this should help you.

Also, do you have a security program on your computer? Something like Norton or McAfee? You can install aVast! for free, but don't do that if you have another anti-virus or security already installed. aVast! can be found by googling it online. They offer a free AND a paid version, but the free version is amazing enough for most of us.

Best of luck,
Jan in VA

Do you have a pop up blocker on your computers anti-virus program? I don't ever get the pop ups on my comp.

So sad for this to happen to you. Copy and keep computer advise from Jan in VA in case anything like this happens again. I have an Apple so these things rarely happen. Don't hesitate to click on sites in the future.

Sometimes what happens is people post honest links to actual quilts, but some 'heathen' gets into the code and redirects you first to their porno website. This is not the original posters intent, and usually an honest person won't even know this has happened. It happens to businesses often. It's called 'high-jacking'.

Only the original poster can clean it up - or the business cleans it up. So if this happens when you go to a business link, know it's a high-jacking situation and the business will resolve it as soon as their aware of it (sometimes it shows ordinary advertisements as well as porno stuff). Give them some time and try back.

In addition, it may have been someone just posted that porno link - and created a user id to do so. In which case, I'm sure the moderator will take care of it when you notify them of the user id.

Hope this helps to explain what happens sometimes :)

if you haven't already done so, run an immediate virus/adware/malware check on your computer. it may have been compromised by something downloaded invisibly from another website.

if you see something like this, report it immediately to Admin.

also report it to every moderator who appears to be online at the time.

neither Admin nor the moderators as individuals are online 24/7, but there's usually at least one available at any given time.

i've sent Admin the link to this topic so he can do some research. he might be able to figure out what happened. it's not likely that the problem originated here, but he'll certainly want to verify that beyond the shadow of a doubt.

I was in another forum and someone started posting pics like that. I finally asked Admin to block that priviledge for all of us until the idiots went elsewhere. it's been fine since.
there are idiots all around the world.
