I have a habit of bending my toes by using my other foot to do it, mostly when I'm sleepy and trying to stay awake. Anyway, one night about 6 weeks ago, I was watching tv, and getting sleepy, when my middle toe started itching. I thought I'd been bitten by something. The next few weeks, my DH and I watched it swell and start hurting. Yesterday, I went to a podiatrist, and I had fractured it! The dr. said that sometimes all it takes is bending your toe, and the ligament will catch hold of the bone just right, and the bone fractures. Don't think I'm gonna do much bending of the toes anymore! The only way to get the swelling down now is to wrap it in the self-adhesive tape, but not enough to cut off circulation. I guess I just wanted to warn you not to be as dumb as me!

Hah... I did this just going down the stairs, missing one step! I never knew my toe was that fragile but BOY HOWDY I learned...ouch!

Silver lining here is it's summer and bare feet are not impossible to do, right?

DebraK 07-21-2011 02:07 PM

ack! warn somebody before you do that.

hperttula123 07-21-2011 02:10 PM

Wow, i had no idea. i have one toe that hurts like crazy if i bend it downwards at all. but it's probably just more arthritis!

I thought I had broke my toe back in Feb. Went 3 weeks, finally went to foot dr. Not only did I break it, I shattered it. He wrapped it to the next toe and 9 weeks later, it showed healing. Said it would take about 9 mon to heal completely. Of course he had to remind me I wasn't 16 any longer. LOL I accidently ran into a door. Sure made me remember to turn on a light next time.

Ouch! Done it running into walls and furniture'!

Kitsie 07-21-2011 05:15 PM

Oh, cripes, it's your right foot, too! Can you press the pedal without it or are you limited to hand quilting for awhile? :( :(

QuiltingNinaSue 07-21-2011 05:51 PM

Surely, that ought to merit some time off of household chores!! And to be waited on, and babied a bit!! Tell everyone you will be busy in the quilt room...

Hope it gets better soon.

If you can drive your sewing machine with either foot you're my latest hero!! My speed control would be totally off! As for driving, I'd have to put out an ABP for everybody else to stay home!   Glad you are a lefty!

OUCH!! My mother broke a toe one time years ago when she somehow hit her foot on the leg of our piano bench. Took it a long time to heal. Mother never was one for sandals, so she wore those old felt type house shoes that you used to find at the dime store for a long time. Hope yours heals quickly.

I broke my middle toe once. I kicked my sister in the rear because she was stealing my cookie dough! Talk about a tough a%% !!!

BETTY62 07-21-2011 09:35 PM

Ouch, may it heal real soon.

Yeah, I can use the sewing machine pedal AND the gas pedal. But walking and standing for any length of time is painful on that toe. Oh well, I'll just have to sew more, and exercise less!

SulaBug 07-22-2011 12:07 AM

Oh NO!! :( That is terrible. You take care of it & mind the Dr's orders. I hope & pray that it heals quickly!!
Not so Happy,

Sorry you got tolio, that's what we call any toe problem. Glad it isn't too bad.

Thanks for the laugh! "Tolio"! I can finally laugh about my toe, but for a while I thought I was imagining things. I go back to the dr. in a month, and I hope I don't have to keep putting this tape on it after that for the swelling.
