I got a new stand mixer today.

My neighbor was over today when my new stand mixer was delivered. She said did your mixer break? When I said no it was just old and was looking old. She thought that was shocking. She said she never bought new appliances unless one was broken. I replace my microwave, toaster, blender, etc when I find a good bargain on a better one then I have. Do you keep small appliances until they break down before buying new?

Depends on the finances at the time. lol

My finances don't allow me the luxury of replacing anything unless I have to.

Sometimes

It all depends on the circumstances....If it breaks, I'll replace it. If I need an upgraded model, I may eventually persuade myself that it's time to do it. Now, when it comes to vintage sewing machines, I always "need" another one. :o

I have "back-up" appliances that I have gotten at "can't pass up" prices. If only the kids would move out and take my OLD ones with them..ehhehehe

I keep an appliance til it breaks. I usually have a spare somewhere that I got for free.

I wish I had a stand mixer and the counter space to keep it. I have fond memories of my mom's and the great cakes she used to make. Old black and white Mixmaster.

So Bellaboo, what did you do with your old but still working mixer? Not throw it out, I hope!

I upgrade if I feel the new style is better in a way that I will use-otherwise I wait until they are worn out.

DH took it to the local CASA house this morning for me. It was much better then the mixer my neighbor has but since hers wasn't broken I didn't offer it to her. :p

The new one is a new Artisian KitchenAid for a total cost of $105 (free shipping to boot) for 12 hours or until sold out only on Facebook. Limit one per customer. This is a super buy for a KitchenAid. And in the color I wanted. Heck, I could resell it for twice what I paid for it. Facebook has fantastic bargains from manufacturers/stores for no rhyme or reason.

I keep everything until it breaks down. I also have the fantasy that appliances should last forever. I get used to things and don't like change, I guess. Cars, too. BUT, I do really get excited when I have to get something new!

LOL, I have a Kitchen Aid mixer that's ages old but it still works. When I found a brand new one on a garage sale for only $75 I snatched it up. I now have two but when I'm mixing cookie dough for the holidays I use them both at the same time. Big appliances, no, I wait until they are shot. Usually dh can fix most of them.
