Congratulations! That SSI can be hard to come by sometimes. And I know this is a huge burden off your shoulders.
If you haven't gotten your first check yet and need money, contact your local SS office. Take in your letter of approval and they can cut you a check for up to but not including $1000. So basically you can get $999.00. It will come out of your back pay but at least it will be some money until your checks start coming.
My DH is on it but he was approved immediately. Minus one leg, six discs, has cadaver bone fused to 7 vertebre, a metal rod in one thigh bone and a large metal "ladder" holding his spine together. Not much of a way they could have denied him.

Miss Rapture,

What did he do? Did you catch him in your sewing room unattended and rummaging through your stash?
Or worse......Did he bring home fabric from Wally World?.....haha

My husband won his third appeal in January of this year (without the help of an attorney); we've been the the SSA office twice since then and they have yet to cut him a check - said because we had TWO cars and the second was valued at over $3,000 he didn't qualify to get anything! Can you believe that?!?!? Congratulations on winning your award - I wouldn't count your chicken's before they hatch if you were awarded SSI and not SSD - you won't get anything unless you have nothing.

julie 06-22-2010 12:28 PM

Well, gee, that hardly took any time at all, did it?! :hunf: What a shame that people who need it, and deserve it have to stand on their heads to get it, but drug addicts and lowlifes seem to get whatever they want. So glad you have been approved. That will be one less thing to worry about.

Gramof6 06-22-2010 12:52 PM

I am very happy that you were approved! It makes me sad that those that need this are strung along for such a long time before being approved.

dsb38327 06-22-2010 12:58 PM

I am sorry you had to suffer. I hope your quality of life will be better with the financial help./Regards, Dorothy

Jingle 06-22-2010 02:53 PM

I'm very happy for you, you paid in and you should get it when you need it without waiting so long.

Woo Hoo!!! :D:D:D

grammo013 06-24-2010 11:43 AM

It took me about a year to get mine. And then it took a month to get settlement check and regular checks started in 3 months. Medicare took 6 months to kick in as they only enroll once or twice a year. Congratulations. Hang in there it will get better from now on.
