A few months back I joined the local quilt guild and I've kicked myself over it a few times. It just hasn't been easy getting to know anyone. Today though I went to a small group and new member luncheon. It was SEW much fun! I finally got to actually meet people and sit around and talk and sew. I'm already looking forward to next month even if I do have to supply my own lunch! I also found out about another small group that meets really close to me on another weekday morning.

Have fun. Being with others that share your same interest is a boost for the morale.

I'm so glad you've met some nice quilting friends.. It is hard to get acquainted when most of the group has been together a long time. Some of my clubs meet just once a month, and it took me years to "belong".

jennychung 06-03-2011 05:57 PM

it's enjoyable u find your interests

Murphy 06-03-2011 06:34 PM

I joined the quilt guild one year and all they did was have people come in for trunk shows and bring what they had made from home and I thought we would learn to make a quilt but never learned anything like that at it so I quit.

I wanted to learn but they didn't sew anything there. Maybe that is the way quilt guilds are, I don't know.

I joined a guild and am not too happy with it. I joined the one that is closest to my house. I should have gone with my first instinct and joined the one that is further away. I am going to that one on Monday night. I hope it is better. There is also a local church that has a Saturday sit and sew that I plan to join.

So glad you are haivng fun. I am meeting with 3 other gals today and we will stitch at one of the ladies homes. We are trying to get together once a week.

Crafty Darlene 06-04-2011 05:06 AM

Good for you! I have been wanting to join a guild also. I'm a newbie so a little nervous about it.

ginnie6 06-04-2011 05:15 AM

I think the meetings are more formal and it is harder to get to know anyone. This was a much smaller group though and more relaxed. I will definitely be going back to this.

sandpat 06-04-2011 05:28 AM

Its for the reason that you said "its hard to get to know people" that I haven't joined a guild. I know its hard to believe, but I'm kinda shy....I much prefer the smaller more relaxed type group. Happy that you found a nice one to play with!

Grandma Peg 06-04-2011 11:01 AM

Good for you enjoy.

roseOfsharon 06-04-2011 11:05 AM

That's great! I have a small quilt guild that I belong to and a friendly group they are! I joined after I had gotten involved with a Friday Sr Ctr group of quilters, most of them also belong there too! :)

NCquilter 06-04-2011 11:11 AM

Awesome! I'm glad you are getting to meet new people who live close and share your passion for quilting.

I joined a group local to me, and it was the best thing I ever did.Nobody teaches we just help each other, although some of our group are very experienced. I have made some very good friends in this group, who I am sure will become life long friends. The age group ranges from 43 to me, and I am 75.

twixbar 06-04-2011 12:51 PM

Have fun.

JulieTN 06-04-2011 12:54 PM

That is great! Walking in cold turkey to a large new group is hard enough - then trying to make friends etc.
Glad you had the luncheon and got to meet and greet members. Excellent idea for any guild to adopt, don't you think?

Our guild is very large. It is hard to get to know the ladies during a meeting. I joined a couple of the smaller sewing groups within the guild and got to know some of them. Another great way to get to know some of them is to join a committee.

Sometimes bigger is not better.

Victoria L 06-06-2011 07:40 AM
