Now maybe you think your dog is not human, but then maybe your dog know what he is suposed to think of you. My 3 dogs are as close to human as an animal can get. My doxie can even say mama. If you treat them like animals then they are animals. If you show them the love and understanding you would show a human then they become human like. In some cases I prefer my animals to some selfish, selfcentered people.

Its not the "stupid peoples" fault for setting off fireworks. Its the dog owners fault for allowing their dogs to get worked up over a loud noise! I live inside city limits, have dogs that when I got them did not like "fireworks" and I will be setting them off in my back yard come tomorrow night and Monday while the dogs are crated in the house! They will be happy, my kids will be happy, I'll be happy! P.S. My husband has PTSD and I treat him with tough love when it comes to stuff like this (loud noises and tough situations) too, he still loves me. |
Yes, Socrates is a dog.. and if he has issues.. so be it.. He works very hard during the week, and I'm appreciative for all he does.. Since I work long hours, I started dropping him off as a pup at my elderly parents house in the am. and pick him up on the way home from work.. Even though he is 17 lbs.. He is one of the best watch dogs I can ask for.. My mom is now alone, and lives in a great area, but since she's in her 80's, I have a good feeling knowing that she can go out, and she has some protection..

Tough love is not for every circumstance.. I stand by my stupid people comment because people who let little children use firecrackers are just plain stupid. I am a former cop and cannot begin to estimate the number of firework related injuries I responded to as a cop on duty on the 4th of July or any other holiday deemed fireworks worthy!!! |
They start setting off fireworks about one month before and at least a month after the 4th. Seems the people could put the money to better use. Some fireworks are pretty, some are just for the noise.
My two dogs now are afraid but don't go crazy. |
My blind dog is just fine with any storm, but our cata is surely a fraidy cat... can run under the couch very quickly,, He has taken enough tonight, poor thing....and this will continue for another few evenings......

Bobo (dog) is not afarid of anything. Emmy and Reggie (kitties) are afarid of all loud noises and especially little kid noises. They hide under the bathroom sink.

1st Fourth with our mini-goldendoodle. She "woofs" at every little pop or boom - and our neighborhood is notorious for use of (illegal) fireworks. Doesn't seem to get really upset by the noise, just a little woof every now and then.
