I took a class on how to make a umbrella! It was a lot of fun! Used Cotton fabric, my sew machine and my serger that does not get used much. Does have some hand sew too. I sprayed it to Repel water. Just spray it yesterday, so I have not check yet to see if it works in the rain yet.
Below is the web site to get a pattern and frames. They have umbrella frames for doll, kids and adults

It take some time but it not hard. You do a rolled hem on the bottom edge with a serger. Then sew the panels together. Then you do a overlock stitch over the seams to give it a finish look. Hand sew rib eyes on to the fabric points.

How cool. Love the material you use for this one. Now I wonder if I can find dogs & cats material to make a "it's raining cats & dogs". LOL. Thanks so much for sharing.

Did you have to buy the frame or can you use another umbrella and recover it? I have a couple that I've had for eons. Don't know why I kept them, maybe waiting for something like this :)

fangman 08-14-2013 11:19 AM

Retired Fire Chief 08-14-2013 02:57 PM

Very neat, umbrellas are usually so blah, now you can make them in fun colors! OK, one more thing on my list!
