Every time I open my Word window I get a class assignment I saved 2 months ago. I have deleted the file and yet it still is my opening page. It's driving me bonkers and now I must ask for help about how to solve this problem!
Any one able to help?

So basically when I go to Start> All Programs> Microsoft Office> Microsoft Word 2007> I get a typed page instead of a blank one to begin with.

HELP

does it say (Recovered) after the title of the document?

I do not see anywhere that it says recoverd. When I click on the office button it shows the name and a push pin is displayed but if I try to open the file it tells me it cannot be found.

Thanks but when I open up new I have to go into the templates to get a blank page, which does not make any sense to me.

Word opens using the Normal template. Sounds to me like you've saved over that template. I often get a message when I'm closing a document that says something like, "You've made changes to the Normal template. Do you want to save those changes." I always click NO.

You need to open the Normal template in edit mode and delete all the text. Then re-save as a template. Sometimes it's tricky to do that.

On one of your toolbars do you see an icon that looks like a blank page? Click that and a new document should pop up without going to templates.

I was going to suggest the same thing.

When I go to the icon it still brings up my saved assignment and not a blank page. What do you mean by edit mode?

Try this:

Change the Normal.dotm template
Any changes that you make to Normal.dotm will be applied to documents that you create in the future.

Click the Microsoft Office Button , and then click Open.
Do one of the following:
In Windows Vista:
Click Templates, and then double-click the Normal.dotm file to open it.

In Microsoft Windows XP or Microsoft Windows Server 2003:
Click Templates next to File name.

If no templates are listed in the Open dialog box, click the arrow next to the Files of type box, and then click All Word Templates.
To be certain that you're working in the default template, check to see that Normal.dotm appears in the Word title bar.
Make any changes that you want to the fonts, margins, spacing, and other settings. You can use the same commands and features that you use to change a document — but remember that any changes that you make to Normal.dotm will be applied to documents that you create in the future.
When you have finished, click the Microsoft Office Button, and then click Save.
Note If Normal.dotm is renamed, damaged, or moved, Word automatically creates a new version (which uses the original default settings) the next time that you start Word. The new version will not include any of the customizations that you made to the version that you renamed or moved.

That's because you saved over the Normal template. You need to delete all the text, then click Save As, from the drop down list select Word Template. Then name it something other than Normal, maybe Normal2. Word won't let you save it with the same name as an open document. Close this file. Then click New, Normal2 template and it should open as a blank document. Now you save as Word Template - Normal. Hopefully this will clear the template. My husband did this and it took a lot of trial and error and re-naming files before we got it restored. Maybe someone knows of a command to restore default settings but I don't.

P.S. Virtualbernie posted while I was working on mine. Between the two of us we may have you confused or maybe you'll get things back to NORMAL
