The first woman looks about 81 years old. Speaks volumes for healthy lifestyle. I would pick Lady #2 for her healthy looks. Just me.

nygal 10-09-2012 09:36 AM

I like Nigella and I have many of her cookbooks. She is so beautiful...pass the butter!

SewpahDewpah 10-09-2012 09:37 AM

Lady #1 has had substantial sun exposure, probably from her gardening, whereas lady #2 has not. Wear sunscreen.

lfstamper 10-09-2012 09:38 AM

I'll drink to #2...lol.

nyelphaba 10-09-2012 11:43 AM

I have always thought Nigella was very beautiful.

ptquilts 10-09-2012 02:13 PM

I don't trust any "celebrities" that tell you how to keep young, etc. You know they have all had plastic surgery, not to mention professional makeup artists.

luvTooQuilt 10-09-2012 02:15 PM

make up sure does wonders !!!!

AuntieD 10-09-2012 03:09 PM

I'm all for enjoying life, which in my case me meats, dairy etc.

quiltsRfun 10-09-2012 03:22 PM

If #1 had a makeover she might be a better representative for her lifestyle. Just saying.

Funny! Thanks for the smile. Wonder how much Nigella works out so she can stay that slim...either that, or she has good genes.

Make up AND staying out of the sun!!! My little sis is only three years younger than I am, but has spent a LOT of time in th sun... even with sunscreen her skin appears significantly older than mine... and if I want her to know I said this, I'll tell her!! lol

Tartan 10-10-2012 06:58 AM

I vote for picture 2. It does help that she has good genes and started out beautiful in the first place.

tfussell 10-10-2012 07:36 AM

I love Nigella and have some of her cookbooks as well. I like watching her show when I can find it.

chips88 10-10-2012 07:56 AM

looks like number 1 digs in the dirt. if you look close at her finger nails. number 2 is very healthy looking . may wash my food down with wine. starting today....;)

Chasing Hawk 10-10-2012 08:27 AM

I see what 10 lbs. of Mary Kay cosmetics can do as well as a well aimed airbrush.........LOL

I think I would prefer to spend time quilting with Gillian than the other Lady.

Neesie 10-10-2012 08:39 AM

Before drawing any conclusions, I'd like to see the first WITH a make-up artist . . . and the second WITHOUT one. The first picture was obviously taken outside, while the woman was working. The second is obviously a PR shot.

Oh so true !!! Bring on the wine Letty

NanaCsews2 10-10-2012 12:07 PM

Inside ourselves regardless of what we eat, we all look like Nigella. Don't we?

Grama Lehr 10-10-2012 12:07 PM

Are you sure that you got their ages correct?? The first one looks 70 to 80 years old.

ptquilts 10-10-2012 12:28 PM

I found this interesting commentary on the whole situation
http://blisstree.com/look/nigella-la...nd-beauty-633/

to quote,

it’s insinuated that attractiveness is a) the most important feature of women (above health), and b) a valid marker of someone’s overall health. They also assume that we should all be measured along the same standards of beauty (god forbid anyone actually find McKeith attractive because she doesn’t have huge breasts or the facial features that have been idealized on film and tv), and they gloss over the fact that genetics play a big role in aging and attractiveness. Sound familiar? This isn’t a far cry from the ridiculous weight and beauty standards promoted by advertising; both are aimed at whittling down a woman’s worth and making her feel that her looks are more important than anything else.

SherriB 10-10-2012 12:37 PM

Wow! Number 2's lifestyle makes her look so pretty!!!

ptquilts 10-10-2012 01:06 PM

right, it must be her lifestyle, not genetics..... BTW, the first photo was taken after 5 days in the Australian outback on a "Survivor" type show. I doubt any of us would look good in those circumstances.

labtechkty 10-10-2012 02:30 PM

It kills me when people like this are compared..not everyone is born with striking good looks...

My advice to her would be to stay out of the Australian outback. Looks like she spent a lot longer than 5 years there. Possibly almost a lifetime?

Pepita 10-10-2012 09:08 PM

Lady #1 also seems to be less genetically gifted as the second lady is gifted. I found out that when you have less padding-I don't think it is fat, on the forehead you wrinkle early. My husband has very thin skin on his forehead and looked 'old' when I married him at 38. (He was 38) He has deep creases around his eyes etc. I on the other hand seem to have better 'skin'. I can see which of our kids (and his by a previous marriage) take after him as far as lines etc. My oldest son, has had the forehead creases for a number of years (He's 27) and my daughter who turns 21 next month has them already. I think genetics play a huge part in how you look as you age. Sun is also very aging. I think there are many more factors, health, smoking and so on.

I watched Martha Stewart this last year on Hallmark, and she is 70! Now I know she is really photogenic, and I don't know if she has had any work done, but gee, she sure doesn't look 70 to me.

quiltmom04 10-11-2012 05:04 AM

Have you ever seen the photos of stars without makeup and special lighting? I wouldn't know Oprah if I ran into her without all that! Even beautiful stars like Sandra Bullock look like they've had a rough night being photographed without their makeup and photographic lighting. Plus, look up those two on snopes.com - it's not as cut and dried as we might think!

Caswews 10-11-2012 06:41 AM

I used to watch Nigella on the food network and when I heard her story about her life; I thought she deserves to be happy in life after her husband died. I have always liked her sense of humor and have lots of her cookbooks.
That is one person in my lifetme that would so cool to have lunch with and laugh.

I'll take Door 2 please .. LOL Thanks for sharing !!

Grace MooreLinker 10-11-2012 07:15 AM

the first on is scary, I to like Nigella

MrsM 10-11-2012 07:39 AM

So much of it is genetics too. I had a friend and teacher who jogged, ate right, and drank very little who died from ovarian cancer at the young age of 63. I say everything in moderation and enjoy life! It is over way too quickly in this form.

maryellen2u 10-11-2012 07:13 PM

It's a good laugh anyway! Yes, I will have another cupcake, thank you!

Wonderful answer!!

Society has conditioned us to go for the more attractive person and shun the less desirable ones.

MimiBug123 10-11-2012 07:28 PM

Please pass me the butter to put on my red meat. Heavens help #1--somebody sure needs to!

jojo47 01-05-2013 07:44 PM

Veggies, fruits, exercise, and vitamins are all well and good, but I still cook meat (yes, the red kind! :) ), some taters and whole wheat bread...and some chocolate now and then for a treat! :)

One guild member has eaten nothing but fruits, grains, and vegetables for over 30 years. No animal products at all, no dairy or fish. She looks like death warmed over. All the new members think she is one of the elderly members. She is 51.

TanyaL 01-06-2013 04:54 PM

Regardless of what society thinks of the worth of big boobs, facelifts or not, makeovers or not - which lady would we most like to resemble when we look in the mirror? No. 2!!!!I always think the best that I can envision myself looking is at least 10 years younger! LOL. I have high self esteem but I would prefer that parts of my face and body did not tend to droop closer toward the floor every morning when I wake up. When I reach the famous 80th birthday I will probably be able to staple dixie cups to my belt and forget the bra and who knows what depths the eye lids will have reached.By then I can use body paint on my ear lobes and start a new dangle fashion and let's not even talk about where the hips are going. Old age has hit me at a bad time in my life.

What part of the fact that protein is the building block of the body's cells does the world not understand? Very few of us can live truly healthily without good protein. No wonder she looks like death warmed over!

I love to watch Nigella on tv. She always appears happy. :):):)
