When my girls were that age, they loved to carry around purses. You might want to make her a bag to put her things in. Or a little doll quilt.

I saw cute pillow case dresses made for little twin sisters. Each girl chose the theme and color fabric. Each had a large daisy type, color coordinated flower for her hair.

Small pocket purses. Simple lined with ric rac used to fasten a little pocket on the outside and extend over top for handles. These might be favors for everyone.

A crown.

Girlfriend, your carry bag is a good idea, too.

A Carry cot is easy to make, and has a lot of play value, as stated above, a little girl can never have enough purses and bags

That goes for big girls too!

What about a couple of doll dresses for a favorite doll. Or make 1 dress to go with a small (store bought) rag doll. Or, some small stuffies. Lots of free patterns on the internet.

Or, when my daughter was small, she loved small dolls and toys. (Mini's) What about making a cute draw string bag with a few small miniature toys. (They have some cute little animal family's or mini dolls. They even have mystery bags in Walmart with mini toys in them.) My grandson loves the mystery pack of Hotwheel Cars and Thomas Trains. Note to self, I need to make him a bag for them. Hmm, the mom would probable love a set of cute draw string bags to organize toys. Here's a couple of links to cute tutorials:

I will be watching this thread. I have an almost 3 year old grandson and a 10 day old granddaughter. I just love to hand make them surprise goodies.

I'd probably make sleeping bags for her stuffed animals:

On this page she shows how to size sleeping bags for different stuffed animals (warning: cute!):

I made my granddaughter a Barbie Tote. It's a fabric basket with a big ruffle around the outside for Barbies( and Ninja Turtles -LOL) she also loves pillowcases- great Minions fabric at Walmart. Purses and zip bags are good. One of the best gifts were aprons that I made several years ago. The favorite was pink with cupcakes and brown/ white polka dot straps and reverse side. Have fun. Hope one of these may be what you are looking for.....

Maybe a little basket with a little quilt for her doll? Purses are great too.

One of those crayons and coloring book holders. I have seen free patterns on the web for them. So cute and never too soon to teach pick it up and keep it neat. LOL! I don't know of any child that would not like a new coloring book.

A picnic quilt. It only needs to be lap size with plenty of themed fabrics. I'd use a disappearing nine patch.

To all the great ideas above, I will add a tutu. Just a piece of elastic her waist measurement, with tulle tied around it.

Karamarie 07-16-2015 04:55 AM

I am presently making birthday gifts for a DGS & DGD who both will be 3 at the end of the month. The Grandson is getting a nap quilt with a dinosaur panel and a bag for a coloring book that has slots on the front for the crayons. Inside the bag I will put a dinosaur coloring book and new crayons in the slots. For Granddaughter I made a nap quilt from an "Elsa & Anna" panel and also a coloring bag. The bags for both are made from fabric from their respective quilt theme. Hope they like them.

sassysews2 07-16-2015 07:12 AM

a travel pillow that holds a small quilt or fleece cover-up, a tutu, a snow white cape for dress up, a sleeping bag for favorite doll, a table cover with a tea set, maybe with a pouch to hold the tea set, 4yo's are easy to please.

aeble 07-16-2015 07:39 AM

My daughter (4) gets super excited about new skirts. Often if I don't have a lot of time, I'll use this tute http://www.danamadeit.com/2011/04/a-...-tutorial.html

There are more ideas here. http://www.quiltingboard.com/general...l-t267299.html

My answer for any gift is a quilt.

IBQUILTIN 07-16-2015 09:25 PM

Her very own pillowcase, with ruffles on the band. I made pillowcases for my two grandsons for them to use while here and then take home, and they loved them. I put their names on the band in applique. No fighting over who's who's and they really had fun with them

Fanny Packs are coming back in style, you might try one of those. Would hold lots of her small stuff.

shasta5718 07-17-2015 05:20 AM

Find a pattern for a cute quillow, you cab google and find some nice ones. Kids really like them for travel or just watching tv.

carolynjo 07-17-2015 02:22 PM

If she is into Frozen, any item made from that material would be really loved.

Latrinka 07-17-2015 02:26 PM

If she has a favorite doll, maybe matching gowns/pjs for her and her doll?! That would be adorable!

madamekelly 07-19-2015 09:01 AM

A matching dress for her and a favorite doll is fun at four, but my favorite project for that age group is "crayon aprons".

I make a lined short apron, turn up the lower edge about three inches, and stitch lines from the upper edge of the "pocket" across the entire folded area just large enough to put one crayon in each little slot. If you buy the box of crayons first, you will know what size and how many crayons slots you will need. These are wonderful for car trips, visiting 'boring places to a four year old' to keep them occupied. Pick up a couple age appropriate coloring books to carry in a matching tote, and little ones are ready for whatever comes to keep them occupied. You can embellish as desired.

A few weeks ago someone posted a photo of a doll and matching dol quilt which were super cute
