I named my DD's Jaclyn (Jackie) and Jacy because I liked the names, but 20 years later I wish I had not done that. Even though Jackie is a brunet and Jacy is a red head, teachers mixed them up all through school. Jacy's vacation pay was just added to Jackie's pay check at work, and Jacy's scolarship money to pay tusion and books was placed in Jackie's account, and according to Ivy Tec, Jacy is not even registered. Ivy Tec thought Jacy was a nic name for Jaclyn. Yeh sure they both work in the same place and attend the same college, but come on, they have different names and middle initials and they don't look anything alike. I guess because I'm mom I just see their personalities. So if I had to do it over I think I would not name them both with names starting with the same letter.

My kids colleges won't do anything without their ID number - probably to avoid exactly the problems you mention.
|
Their ID numbers are their SS number. But they still get the information wrong.

I have the same name as another woman, not related at all ( well they say distant cousins some where many generations back  ) This is my given name at birth, hers by marraige. She is about 25 years (?) older then me and we oth live on the same street and have for 22 years but about 13 blocks apart. we only meet for the first time about 20 years ago I am 46 now.
Want to talk about a MESS , she always gets my mail, I get hers , docs screw it up , insurance companies , pharmacies.. you name it  And using middle initials hasn't helped either |
I have a distant cousin who named her son Jeremy the same as my son, Their bank accounts are always screwed up!!
|
My Dad and Brother have the exact smae name AND live on the same street, a few miles apart!!!!!!!!!!!
Get each others mail, bills, packages, the propane guy even filled the wrong tank, lol!! |
documents are never supposed to use "nicknames" So, their reasoning is kind of void :D
my DH is a jr. alot of his fathers stuff shows up on his credit report alot. i thought the whole purpose of asking for socials and ID #s was to avoid the hassle similar names cause. Seems too many people are too lazy to actually bother checking #s. |
the last time i counted there were 7 women, either in the US Army or working for the Army, with my first and last name. i get email intended for at least half of them.
one works on pay issues for Army doctors. so i know whenever one thinks he got underpaid. funniest thing ... she never hears from one who thinks he got overpaid. one works in the Washington, DC area. every time she orders from a particular group of catalog companies, i get the shipping notifications. she's now very careful about what she orders from them. one is a captain. i always know when she changes duty stations, gets promoted, or changes jobs. if i didn't automatically forward them, she wouldn't get a lot of the memos, reports or other important correspondence she needs to do her job. when i retire, i don't know how they'll get their email or know when a package has shipped.   |
There is someone who lives not far from me who has the same name, is around the same age, & sees most of the same doctors that I do. I once was having surgery & the surgeon had the wrong records in front of him. I only discovered the error when he spoke of a previous surgery that I did not have. I had a gynocological exam denied by insurance as they said I already had an exam that year - which I did not.

I haven't had any of these nightmares some of you have had.
Just a sort of funny here......... When my son graduated from college they called out his name as Michael- his name is Mark but his brother is Michael and Michael didn't go to the same college so obviously it was just a mistake. Michael was standing next to me and said " Wow, I graduated a year earlier than I was supposed to"!! We laughed over that one. I spent their whole childhoods getting teased " Where's Luke"?? (Matthew, Mark, Michael) It got old after awhile haha :D On top of the joke getting stale we never thought about it when naming them, just liked the names!! |
It's amazing the number of mix-ups related to names that happen. Still, I'd rather be a name than a number :)
My niece and I had the same name while she was going through a difficult time of life. I had to deal with fraud charges at the bank, tickets on my driver's licence and the inability to buy car insurance. One woman in the insurance office actually said, "well, I wouldn't think twice about applying fines against that name because it's so unusual. I wouldn't expect there to be two people with that name." I learned to always identify myself with my birthdate and was happy to remarry and adopt a new name. |

Their id number should be a number unique for the school to use not their social security number. Unbelieveable! |
My oldest son is a "jr" and I would never do it again. We have always used a nickname for him but everywhere else they are identical names. It happened that he went into the same line of work as my husband and belong to the same union. We watch everything very carefully! Also my MIL and I shared the same name. I quickly learned to use my middle initial after almost getting the wrong perscription!
|
I have a son that is a Jr. and I know now it wasn't a good thing. I do searches for real estate and we were taught to ignore middle initials and Jr/Sr, etc. We have to present everything and put- may or may not be the same person. I don't want the liability of not disclosing a lien.
I've told my children not to do that to their sons- right now there aren't any issues, but I know what it can lead to. |
Our 2nd grandchild was born to our daughter 2 days before our son and his wife had their first child a boy. the girl was named after me, same middle initial, but different middle name. same with the boy being named my husbands name but he had diff middle initial. No problem when children, but big problems in the last few years. the girl has excellent credit but our things get added onto her credit report, then she is denied purchases. the boy moved in with us for a few months, when he left he turned in a change of address and checked whole household. that has been a year and a half. mess..we still do not get all our mail. he moved to another state, and has bad credit.....with the girl we raised her, so she has always had same address as us. Messed up bank accounts, etc. no one goes by the social security number...except the federal government. We have talked to 7 people dif times at main post office, so now we just hold their incoming mail and mail it when we get a bunch of it. they don't mail ours...everytime I get a call about a bill, they have us down as wrong state. then i realize they are calling for grandson with husbands name...what a terrible mess.....

Hubby and Son has the same 1st and last name and has been a pain, they go to same Dr. and use their birthday and year and that helps.

I checked into a hotel in a city two provinces away and was told, "welcome Mrs. Murphy. Your husband has already checked in and gone to your room." Only problem was, I was divorced and traveling alone.
Came to find out that Lori Murphy from Lethbridge ALBERTA just happened to be vacationing in New Brunswick the same time Lori Murphy from Lethbridge Newfoundland was! AND we chose the same hotel for the same night! Hope they had a better night than I did! LOL |
There was a boy a year behind my son with the exact same name. This boy was constantly in trouble throughout grade school and high school. My son would get called to the office many times. Once the other Nick took a lighter to school that looked like a knife. A student reported it to the principal, but didn't specify which "Nick Miller". My son was called to the office, his back pack and locker and person were searched. Of course he didn't have it, and the right Nick was called in and he did have it and was suspended. No apology was given to my son. I decided enough was enough and called the principal and gave him a piece of my mind. My feeling was that because the other Nick was in trouble so often, and my Nick was never, and I mean never, in trouble, the other Nick should have been checked first. We were on our guard Nick's remaning school years so this didn't happen again.

Oh, and I have a cousin who had 5 daughters, all their names begin with the letter "T". The only way I can remember the birth order is to recite the names! lol
|
I think every family has problems that way. In ours it was that John and Bonnie lived at 110 E. ----- St. and cousins Jack and Connie lived at 101 E. ----- St. Same town, same street, same last name. They always got each other's mail. I took my cousin's check to the bank to deposit it for him and because of the same last name they put it in my account even though his account number was on the papers and they knew both of us and his wife by sight.
|
My husband and I have been married for 31 years, and this is my story. We met Jan.3, 1980 and married Jan. 25, 1980. He is from N C and me SC. My name is Mary Elizabeth and I go by Mary,i am now 62. His oldest sister now 89--Mary Elizabeth is her name. She lived in SC for years and moved back to NC, we bought her house.Everything we have done to the house, People in our community says what would Mary Elizabeth say, I answer I just did. They forget I am Mary Elizabeth.

My DH has the name problem also and this can sometimes be a nitemare. I have the same name and middle name as some one else so I had to put a code, because we got the wrong R/X.
|
Wonder how the Duggar's with their 18 (or is it more now?) kids get on with all the kids having their name starting with 'J' ?
|
Same kind of things happened to us, with a Kyle and a Kyrk. They get mixed up all the time. But, the scariest time was when they mixed up Kyle and Kyrk and gave Kyle pennicillin, thinking he was Kyrk. It was in the hospital, and he stopped breathing. But, all came out well.

My friend's husband was pulled over by state troopers and they surrounded him with guns. They ran a check on his license plate and saw his wife's name on the car registration, and she was wanted. Different lady with same name. My friend is the last person on earth who the police would ever want. They thought it was funny until they asked a police officer friend to run a check on the name. He chuckled too, until the check on the name showed the other woman with the same name was wanted on numerous felonies and was listed as armed and dangerous. He warned them to immediately take any request by cops to pull over, raise hands, submit to search very seriously and to obey then explain. Her college-age daughter was also followed back to campus by police and pulled over to have her car searched because it was in mom's name. They got my friend's name off all the titles to the cars after that.

Once, in Tucson, a collection company tried to get me to pay a bill for someone else with my name. It was a bad debt on a J C Penny credit card - which I have never had. The 2nd or 3rd time they called, they made the mistake of saying that the last 4 digits of my social security # were ABCD. I told them that wasn't mine. They kept calling, and after a month or so, I told them the law required them to send me written notice (which is true). I had called the Tucson DA's office to report that they were hassling me, and that's when I found out that the collections agency had to send me written notice BEFORE they started calling on the telephone. Actually, I was lucky, because they never called in the middle of the night, like you hear in some nightmare stories.
It turned out, It was a collections agency from a city in another state, so the Tucson DA couldn't do anything about the erroneous hassling. I wrote to the Chamber of Commerce, the Better Business Bureau and the State Attorney General of the City and State where the collections agency was located - with a copy to the collection agency. I never heard from them again. But it was a royal pain in the A for a couple of months. |
Once, in Tucson, a collection company tried to get me to pay a bill for someone else with the same first and last name. They probably just looked in the phone book, and started calling people with our last name. My husband's first name is Charles, so I was probably the first one to answer their call. When the person said 'Is this Joanne S------?' I asked 'Who's calling?' That's what I always do when the voice isn't familiar. He just started saying had to pay an overdue bad debt on a J C Penny credit card. I told him I have never had a J C Penney credit card. Of course, he didn't believe me. I didn't argue with him. I just hung up.

Live and learn. I don't know why my parents didn't think of anything other than just plain Ann!!!!

My dad and mom had the same surname, so every year when you had to fill the information paper for the school my sister and I got in trouble. It went from "Dont you know your mother family name to go into detention because of our "stupidity. But we never told them that when my mother"s brother married his wife had the same first name than my mom.

There's something to be said about the mentality of College admissions offices.... When my Daughter graduated, I told her I couldn't pay for college, she'd have to get funding..
on the loan application I had to put my age etc, etc... they had the nerve to call me a liar, and challenge the fact that we were 15 years apart in age! I asked the woman on the line if she seriously thought teen pregnancy was something they just made up in the last couple years! I would LOVE to live a life that resembled 'Leave it to Beaver'. |

When my oldest was in 3rd grade there were 3 David Smiths in his class! And in Jr High and High School there were two with the same initials, but different middle names, and the other one went by his middle name, but the school did get them mixed up more than once.
What was really aggrevating was my daughter whose name is Michelle kept getting mixed up with a Michael who was 1) a boy, 2) did not do very well in school 3) was in trouble quite a bit. First time I got his 'progress report' instead of hers I about had a fit...then I looked at the name...wrong kid, not mine, don't have to flip out. |

Someone in another state with an extensive felony record has the same exact name AND birthdate as my DS. She always has problems getting her business license, drivers license, etc.
|
There is someone with the same name as me, when we bought our house I was canceling all these credit cards I did not own. did not think anything of it, except made me angry that someone used my name. then last year went to get my meds filled, and they said they already filled one of my meds. after that, I give them my address. God bless. Penny

My name keeps changing. Like many Germans, I do not have a middle name, so I was surprised when I kept getting mail for Martina L. - Later it was Martina Luise, Recently it changed to Martina A (as in Pat's middle initial) and the last one added a sex change because it was addressed to Martin Arnold.
Yikes! |
My first name is Barbara so I go by Bobbie.
At the Dr office there are 2 of us with the same last name so they have to go by the birthday to make sure they have the right chart. I have often wonder why parents would name there childern with the same Letter. Like a Keith and a Kurt. I under stand it when they are twins. Sound like the school is being lazy not making sure your daughter get whay is rightfully theres. |
