what are your dislikes ?

I have lived all over Texas and each area has a charm all it's own. Where I live now in the San Antonio area the weather is almost always nice, we have very little very cold weather but right now we are way to dry. There is so much to do here, there is always something exciting going on that almost every one can find to their taste. We have art, music, Broad way shows come here often. We have the Spurs, the River walk Sea World Fiesta Texas, Water parks,the zoo. If you like eating out we have any kind of great food all over town. We have great shopping areas and we are very close to the Gulf with beaches and great fishing. We have several LQS"s and quilt shows. We are not that far from Houston for that great quilt show. We are an hour away from Austin. We have very good hospitals and medical care. We have several good school districts and many University's in town and other towns close by. for the next two weeks we are having our Fiesta city party that will be street party's with food of all kinds and the river parade and the night lit up flamebo parade. There are Churches of any you might be looking for and the people here are so friendly.

I live just outside San Antonio in the Hill Country. I love it! I drive into San Antonio for work everyday. Have your zyrtec ready though....this is the allergy capital I think. lol I'm originally from North Central Texas on the Texas/Oklahoma border. The economy in Texas is still doable and the cost of living cheaper than most other states. And they don't call us the friendly state for nothing! (That excludes drivers in the big cities though.....)

I also live in San Antonio. In addition to the reasons listed above, I like it here because, on the whole, the people in this city are so nice. I have lived in another part of Texas that I will leave nameless so I don't unintentionally offend, and I hated it! The people were always grumbling about something, and when you went into a store, for
example, you'd better be careful going through the door because you'd be likely run down by someone else. San Antonio is just the opposite. People are friendly and caring. I can't imagine moving away from here (except for maybe Hawaii!)

Don't forget to mention the Texas wildflowers on the roadsides and fields in the spring time in Central Texas. Has been dry so that might affect that part of the beauty of living in Texas. I lived in San Antonio and Houston from 1968 to 2000 and go back to San Antonio often as I have kids and grandkids there. The only drawback for me is the humidity. Otherwise what everyone else said.

I live in Spring and love it. Fairly small town feel with big city advantages. Old Town Spring is just on the other side of I-45 from us and it's a world of its own. Always something going on there. Right now it's the crawfish festival. The down side is the heat and humidity in the summer, but that's what air conditioners are for. Also, allergies run rampant, but that's almost anywhere you go.

I live in Canyon Lake. All of the above are the same for us. It is the lack of rain and cost of water plus some allergies-- these are the downfalls. However other areas around us have to have water trucked in so guess we are somewhat lucky. We love it here-friendly people, great neighbors, so serene and quiet. We are quite a long way from home--the Carolinas-- but will stay where we are.

Well I am from Houston (not there now) but I really miss the Spring rains and all the different greens in the trees and plants. I used to stand out on our front porch (which I also miss) and just wonder at the Beauty of Nature.
Friendly people too. (really miss that) Houston has grown since then and especially since Katrina displaced so many people. Texas itself is a great place to live, I will say that.

Here in Northeast Texas we are in rolling hills, rural area with medium size towns close, and Dallas 2 hours away. Real estate is very reasonable. It is hot and humid in summer, but we like it because it does not get that cold in the winter which we also like. It is a good retirement area with a lot of lakes and water recreation areas. Also a good place to raise families. We are Texans by birth, lived away while in the Navy 20 years, but always knew we would come back home.

Why? Are you planning a move?

We live in the Canyon Lake area and love it! Between San Antonio and Austin. Always something to do and the the people are great. The summers are hot though! Allergies can be a bit much if you haven't been bothered by them before. Are you planning a move?

Well, I'm a little west of TexasSunshine. I'm an hour away from Dallas. We live in the rural area where it's pretty peaceful. Lake Tawakoni is a great fishing lake if you're so inclined. We're just far enough south to not get all that snow, just the coldness. This year was the coldest I can remember. Ya, it gets hot here in the summer, but not for that long, maybe a months worth. I've lived elsewhere, but I really like where we live now.

We are from the GREAT STATE of TEXAS as well. We moved to WA State in 2009, and love the area we are in, but now we are planning to move back to Texas. We moved here from the League City area, which is between Houston and Galveston. We don't want to move back to that area because of the humidity, hurricanes, flooding, mosquitoes and TRAFFIC. So - I'm spending a lot of time researching and looking online at areas that don't have that. Central Texas and the Hill Country is basically where my focus has been. Suggestions welcome and I'll look! Feel free to send me a PM...

Living in Texas
 

...you don't have to shovel sunshine (I'm originally from snow country);
...it's just a grown up cowtown - big city advantages with small town friendliness; and
...the cost of living is very reasonable.

I have lived in Houston all my life and love it! Yes, we have heat and humidity but you get used to it and I would rather deal with that than snow and ice! Traffic - sure - but what city doesn't have it? Houston is making an effort to repair streets and work on freeways. We have great museums and are close to NASA and Galveston. Austin and San Antonio are an easy drive and make great getaways. Plus every year we have the Quilt Festival!

I have friends that live all over in Texas and one of the best things about Texa is that you can find a region you like - Gulf Coast for water lovers, East Texas Piney Woods, Hill Country and Edwards Plateau, the Davis Mountains, the Rio Grands Valley area, and the El Paso-Midland area! Whatever type of topography and weather you like, there will someplace in Texas just right for you!

And we have the best barbecue and Tex-Mex food of anywhere!

What area are you talking about? Texas geography and population is so diverse, the accents, colloquialsims so unique, etc., that it is hard to say without more information.

Want the mountains? Go to the Davis Mountains and climb rocks.
Want a beach? Go to South Padre Island or Galveston.
Want the big city urban life? Try Dallas, Fort Worth, San Antonio, Austin, Houston.
Want the desert? Go to Midland, Odessa, and travel I20 to El Paso.
Want the least populated county in the United States? Go to Loving County, county seat is Mentone.
Want farm country? Try several different sections of Texas, from the Panhandles' wheat and sorghum to the South Texas citrus farms.
There is a lot more to Texas than geography. If you are a Yankee, you are liekly to be offended because people will want to know where you go to church. If you are lazy, don't come for anything except a visit because the Puritan work ethic, for the most part, is alive and well here. If you don't like the Texas drawl, the variations thereof, and Texanisms, keep it to yourself. You're the one who talks funny everywhere except where you came from. What you will mostly find in Texas is mostly friendly, helpful people who will welcome you with open arms. froggyintexas

I've always lived in Texas. Have been in College Station for the last 25 years. the only thing I don't like about Texas is the humidity. It is unbearable sometimes, especially when you want to participate in or visit something that is outside. You wanna live in Texas, you really need an air conditioner in your house AND car!

I love Texas. I was born in Dallas, Tx and lived there until I was 40. I miss the 4 seasons and the beauty and splendor of the nature. I currently live in NY and love the autumn season. But, I would move back to Texas and home, if I could get my husband to agree.

I live in Schertz and we have a billboard just north of city limits that states: San Antonio 10 miles....our biggest suburb!

I am a native Texan ---- with an ancestor who died at the Alamo and another who died in the Goliad Massacre. I grew up on a blackland cotton farm in North Central Texas.

To me, the best thing about Texas are Texans themselves, particularly the farm people. The older I get, the more I am nostalgic for the "old days" before the small towns began dying as people moved from their farms to take city jobs.

Austin- great, lots of things to do. Traffic is HORRID!!! Takes up to an hour to go 10 miles during rush hour, and unfortunately, rush hour lasts 2-3 hours each. Allergies are horrible and getting worse, even for the people who have lived in this city for 25-30 years. Most people are wonderfully friendly, as long as they're not in the other car. And yes, the traffic is as bad as, if not worse than, Los Angeles.

San Antonio, Austin, and Dallas...

Love them all but HATE the traffic...... Roads were not well thought out if the places grew...
