Civil service is a great job - and - it gets you a good discount at hotels.
I'm a teacher and am always happy when that's counted as a government job!

mom-6 02-12-2011 08:55 PM

Does retired career Air Force wife count?

sewwhat85 02-12-2011 09:08 PM

Snorky Lvs2Quilt 02-12-2011 09:55 PM

I work only seasonally in a tax office.

frugalfabrics 02-12-2011 10:08 PM

My first job was with Social Security, then a Psychiatric Hospital...and now a Prison

I am laid off...I dont think a governmentjob is where I would want to be....I do like my recliner and remote...and especially sewing machines....

pookie ookie 02-12-2011 11:12 PM

Unfortunately none of those crazy California style gov't. employee pensions for mil folks. Same boss and yet the military gets the short end of the stick. Just imagine a world where an SPC retires on a six figure pension. lol

With a name like Frugal, I'm betting you're not getting one of those pensions either.

sew_southern 02-12-2011 11:19 PM

I work for a well known hotel chain, but hubby is Postal (which is government) and Navy before that. :)

dellareya 02-12-2011 11:37 PM

My husband worked for Social Security Administration for 35 years. He retired 2 years ago. He is very glad to be retired.

liminanc 02-13-2011 03:55 AM

Nope, work as a technician for the phone company. Hubby is a 4th grade teacher.

Lv2sew2011 02-13-2011 03:58 AM

MissM 02-13-2011 05:29 AM

amandasgramma 02-13-2011 10:05 AM

isnthatodd 02-13-2011 10:08 AM

I'm a special ed teacher funded by the feds, and hubby retired last spring from the IRS (not a tax collector, an engineer!)
And military anything is definitely government, and thank you very much for all you do to help keep us safe.

I've got 24 years in...and still have the pension available...but with the new governor we got, there is talk that we may be losing our retirement health care and pensions and all that jazz...which is what has happened to most private sector employees too.

So I'll probably end up working until I'm 85, just so I can keep my health care.

I really do love my job - it's the drive that I hate.
