Terri- I was always told that when an infant is in a situation they don't know how to handle, they go to sleep. It's their stress release mechanism. My oldest used to scream for 10 seconds after a shot and then go right to sleep.

Kids are weird. I'm just waiting for GS to get up- they stayed over last night (furnace issues) and I want to make him a good breakfast. (He's 19 mos. old)

Terri, I'm so glad that you're staying a bit with the grandbabies and helping the new parents. When my daughter was born, I don't know what I would have done for the first week without my mom. My baby girl was a good size (8 lbs 1oz. at birth) and wanted to eat every 2 hours. I was just exhausted! And then the plus side is that you get to spoil them rotten....(hehe).

my first two were tiny little ones...in the 3 lb. range (before losing that initial weight) and remained in the hospital for 70 days and for 44 days before coming home..let me tell you about them being on a schedule.........while there it was every two or three hours and they decided that that was a good eating
timetable.,

I did use the swing for the second one..he would eat, burp, swing and sleep.....kept that going for awhile.

the next two were bigger and I could get them on my kind of schedule.......but as the old saying goes.......each one is different.

They will become their own personalities soon enough and those new parents will find that out really fast.

Happy day......

Oh Terri, I just found your babies last night while I was at work. They are absolutely gorgeous!!! And Olivia has the funniest, cutest expressions! Something tells me she is going to be a chip off the ol' gramma! LOL

I know that DD & DSIL are so glad that you are there to help them. Even if they don't realize it now, they will once you go back home!

Keep us updated and keep posting pix. And hey, we want to see one of Gramma holding those two beautiful bundles!

Much love and hugs to you, dear friend. What a wonderful way to see in the New Year!!

But, what do we know as moms, right?

Anyway...little boy is now awake and is wanting food. Little girl is FINALLY asleep, so I'm heading to bed.

I know, and I was a bad mom. William would only sleep on his tummy, so that's how I put him down. I could never admit it to anyone, even the pediatrician. But he loved it...he slept for hours that way. I would check on his breathing, he was as healthy as they come, so I just did it. True confessions heere.

Did you know that you can't cover babies? They could smother. We kept Olivia New Years eve and kept the heat up high (for us) I even moved her crib close to the heat vent. I still worried that she would be cold. How did my children survive, how did we survive?

The babies may have slept so well on the daytime excursion, due to the background noises  Newborns in the hospital hear low voices, machines humming...machines beeping...phones ringing...and they very happily sleep through it all.
Another thing....my twin grandson's did NOT like to sleep apart...especially the smallest one. They got more rest, gained more weight, and were all over happier sleeping together. Their specialist said that they have a mental as well as a physical connection...studies have shown that they thrive better if they sleep close to each other too :D:D:D

Anyway...enjoy those babies!!! Get pictures of you with them!!!
