I had startched some fabric and I decided to get it ironed. I got half way thru the pile and all of a sudden I hear this buzz and sparks shoot out of the cord near the iron. It barely missed me arm. I've had this one for about 15yrs. I guess it was time. Well darn it, when it rains it pours. I'm so tired of these kind of things happening. Well some thing else to save for. Sorry I just had to vent. Thanks for reading.

Sometimes we just can't get done what we want to get done! That's why God invented chocolate. To make us feel better and forget what just happened!

NCquilter 06-28-2010 03:40 PM

That happened to me about a month ago. It made me so mad because I was pressing all my squares getting ready to put my quilt top together and I had to postpone it. I borrowed my mother-in-law's iron until I broke down and got a new one.

cjomomma 06-28-2010 03:40 PM

But I don't have any chocolate either!!!!!!!

amandasgramma 06-28-2010 03:54 PM

I had the same thing happen to me a year or so ago...only it did that WHILE I was ironing and it burned up the fabric!!!!!!!!! SCARY! I bought a cheap $35.00 iron that has worked real well. Then the other day, someone on this board said they use their travel iron!!! WOW! I have one! So I have the ironing board set up with big iron for big things, and my travel iron and travel board set up next to my machine for the small stuff. Sure saves me steps!

My iron stopping working on me while I was ironing a finished quilt.
Yep it scrotched it.
I had to take it apart & redo.
You know it never looks the same after that!

You, my dear, need a shopping trip! Get a cheap iron. I got one at WalMart, and you do know they sell chocolate, too!

Thank you. You made me laugh, I needed that.

That is irritating to have equipment break down in the middle of a project. I'm glad you didn't get shocked.

sheilainoz 06-28-2010 05:04 PM

I had the same happen to me about a week ago .... mind tho I'm happy cause I had a braun proglide iron that had come out of a skip and its better than the one I fritzed :)

cjomomma 06-28-2010 05:23 PM

I am better now. I took a shower and then TXTed my mom and told her what happened so she let me borrow hers for a couple of days. I also found some nutty bars in the cabinet so I got my Chocolate fix. Thanks you all for sharing with me in my time misery.

Must be that time of the year for irons to bite the dust. Mine just quit last week---no sparks, no smoke, no heat. Luckily I had another in the basement.

That is a real pain when you don't have a back-up or the money to buy a new one. Thanks to moms huh? Seems they are always there

CarrieAnne 06-29-2010 03:34 AM

Aw, glad you get to borrow one! I found one at a garage sale the other day, dont need it yet, but since it was only a buck, I figured it get it just in case that happens to me. Its always when you REALLY want to use the that they break!

quiltinghere 06-29-2010 03:39 AM

Guess we all need to keep on the lookout for Spare Irons when we hit the garage sales and resale shops!

cjomomma 06-29-2010 05:14 AM

The thrift shop is open today, guess I will go see if they have 1 or 2 good ones for me.

Audball 06-29-2010 05:16 AM

Peanut butter, coconut, nuts, raisins, just about anything in that baking cupboard will work as a substitute, hehe.

cjomomma 06-29-2010 05:22 AM

What's funny is the other day I was thinking this is the best iron I have ever had, 15yrs and still works like new. Guess I was asking for it to quit. Lol. I'm laughing about it now but I sure was last night.

cjomomma 06-29-2010 10:48 AM

I went to the thrift shop and found 2 irons for $2.00 a piece. Checked them before I paid for them and they seem to work great. Maybe I should stock up on them. Hehehe

cjomomma 06-29-2010 10:50 AM

I'm so laughing at myself because of how I wrote the subject line. It was suppose to say mad not made. Either way it seems to work.

GrammaNan 06-29-2010 10:50 AM

You poor dear. I am glad that you feel better. Moms are the best.

Yes they are and mine is awesome.

That is so frustrating. It couldn't have waited til you were done. :-D

franie 06-30-2010 08:23 AM

Go to thrift store and find one of the older ones with metal plate. Some of those work better than the new ones. And when they go bad, throw it out with very little money involved. I got one recently for $2.

franie 06-30-2010 08:24 AM

whoops I did not read through. You did it! Back in business!
