I see so many fur babies in avatars here on the board and was hoping somebody could help me find a 2nd one to add to our household.

My big boy Miller is 100 pounds and is epileptic. We have been able to manage his seizures but he has to take so much medicine that makes him sleepy. He loves it when we have company, either human or dogs. He is more energetic then. He is such a sweetie but sheds so badly (he is part lab, part boxer and part great dane). I don't want to add to the fur tumbleweeds that we already have.

I've heard terriers are not bad about shedding. I don't want a baby that has to be groomed monthly because of the costs.. Does anyone have any breeds that they would recommend? I'm all for adopting a rescue - those are my favorite!

I love my boxer.. she has just a little shedding smaller fur. Lover her to pieces!1

A second furbaby is a great idea. My furgirls are so happy together. Mine are rescues, too. Dogs = shedding, though a good diet and regular brushing helps keep it under control. Sorry, I'm no help.

Ours is a rescued boxer mix I have a better pic just can't find it right now!

Don't know about other terriers but our Rat terrier sheds more than my long hair chihuahua! I agree that Petfinders is a wonderful place to look. Good luck and can't wait to see who you bring home!

My 2 fur babies both came from petfinder.com! My old guy Buddy was starting to act really old so we went online and found him a baby brother to love. Wolfie has put the puppy back in Buddy!! And they both keep mom going!! I would be lost without them!!

We have a poochon (part poodle and part bichon). He was a rescue dog we found on petfinder.com. He is wonderful with children who visit, and sheds very little. Low maintainence.

That is what I'm hoping will happen in our house :)

Poodles, Portuguese Water Dogs, and some of the wire coated Terriers are larger dogs that don't shed (much).

If your looking for a smaller dog the list is quite a bit larger including several Terriers, Toy & Mini Poodles, Chinese Cresteds (hairless), Bichons, and a bunch of others. Maltese, Yorkies, Silkies and Australian Terriers have single silky coats that shed, but not like a double coated breed).

ALL of the non-shedding dogs (with the exception of the Chinese Crested) require some grooming. Even wire coated Terriers DO shed, but it's different and most of the time the hair has to be plucked (they call it stripping).

What kind of "personality" do you want? I would start with personality and desired size, then narrow it down to the breed that fits those categories the most and sheds the least. The personality of the dog is what you have to live with constantly, cleaning the hair is something your doing already and putting up with.

Once you've narrowed it down to a few breeds contact the breed rescue groups - a good start is with the AKC Parent Club (you can find all of them on AKC.ORG). Many breed clubs don't have rescue groups of their own because of the liability issues, but most of their web sites will at least have contact information on their websites - as well as general information about the breed as well.

I rescue iggies (Italian Greyhounds) and they do not shed. Right now, there are 11 in my house, and no dog hair. Of course, they are little tiny dogs, and they also have no body fat or much of a coat, so they need to be clothed in the winter. They also require no grooming except the occasional bath and nail trim, and are clean. Their personalities are not for everyone, but they are amazing little athletes/couch potatoes. (They only have 2 speeds- on and off)

I think many dogs do better with a pal. And Petfinder is the only way to go. Good luck!

My poodle does not shed, but I know she is extremely jealous if other animals get the attention she wants. She may just be a tiny bit spoiled. Good luck on your furbaby search.

I'd love an Italian Greyhound if I lived in a more moderate climate. My welll furred dogs are having trouble when it's more than 10 below. 30 below last night. Brr-r r-r. Lily and Moira are curled up on my bed - smart furgirls.

I'd recommend Cavalier King Charles spaniels. They range between 12 and 20 pounds, don't yap or nip, are wonderful with children and other dogs and don't have a mean bone in their body. You have to brush out their ears every couple of days but they take very little grooming. I usually bath Molly (my avatar) no more than once a week (I don't like dirty dogs)and never need to take her to the groomers. She is such a happy, friendly good companion.

I have a rescued Daushaund/Terrier mix that I am also looking for a buddy for. He is great but a ball of energy. He is 15 pounds. I am looking for a larger mix to adopt :-) I am thinkink about a lab mix of sorts. I think you need a husky ;-) ;-)

Hey girl! I would love to see your baby :) we are looking for smaller, with Miller being 100 pounds, it takes everything I have to hold him if he decides to bolt after a squirrel... Eastin wants one she can walk around with - the neighbor has a 10 pound poodle and she loves carrying it around like she is a movie star (so funny)...

We rescued our Bernie. She is half pit bull and half hound dog. I know pit bull but I tell ya she is a big baby and would lick anyone to death if they came in the house. Rescue is the way to go. We got her because Cash kept jumping our 6 foot fence to go play with the neighborhood dogs. They love each other and it has kept Cash at home now..... I dont know if you have ever thought about a no pull harness or not but I know before we got ours it was hard to hold the two dogs back when they wanted to take off. one is 75 and one is 85 and we walk them both at the same time with no pulling now.
