Same here. Son graduated with degrees in computer programming and he said its all I will ever need. No problems for over 3 years since I got out of Yahoo mail and off IE and use only Windows Defender, Malwarebytes-free version, and keep computer clean with CCleaner-free version from FileHippo.

I use Avast, Malwarebytes and SuperAntispyware, all free, each looks for different threats and I haven't had any problems.

I think the trouble you have depends on what you do with the computer. I had a bunch of trouble and I took it in to a computer store. They sold me Eset. I have not had any trouble since. When the subscription came up, the computer store called me and wanted to renew, but Eset had already contacted me on the internet and I had bought it from them.

On those PCMatic commercials, if you pause the feed and look there is a list of companies that protect. Eset is listed on that list. This costs me $80.00 for 2 devices for 2 years. I am very happy with it as it automatically updates and I never have to touch it.

Also check with your internet service provider. Many of them provide free anti virus software but they don't advertise it. I know with me I have internet service bundled in with my cable and land line and they provide free McAfee I believe.

Thanks for all these responses. I have until tomorrow to decide.
