Introducing Sadie!

Howdy y'all ☺
After seeing a hawk perched on the wire in my back yard, I was worried about the chickens I'll be getting in April. My Jasmine is a cockapoo, so I've been worried about her being attacked too. So today I went to the chicken swap to see if I could come up with ideas on how to detere predators. This was the best idea I was given. So...meet Sadie, named after my grandmother! She is six weeks old and is a Great Pyrenees. And she's so smart! She's already going to the door and whining when she needs to go out! She was raised in a barn with chickens and I don't think the owners of her parents interfered much with her mother, so she was a bit skittish around me at first, but now follows me everywhere. Ain't she adorable?? 😍😍😍 Donna |
She is adorable <3
A cutie! Love those fur babies.
She is adorable! She is going to be big so your idea should work.
So precious. Good luck.

I had one once. Sweetest dog in the world. She wanted to herd all the other animals and keep an eye on them. So much innate knowledge. My folks were visiting and I let her out, she was watching a cat near the road and the meanest man in the neighborhood purposely hit her. Shattered her pelvis. My Dad and I chased that guy down and he came out with a rifle at us. It was just a horrible experience. We raced her to the vet and then paid $1000.00 to fly her to Portland, Oregon to a special vet. The prognosis was bleak and I ended up putting her down.
Her name was Muffie and she was used to having scrambled eggs every morning so I just kept that up. Now I have 4 house cats, no dogs. Just too heart breaking. Keep her away from roads. They consider the traffic to be an intrusion of their territory and they won't get out of the way. |
Sadie is a cutie pie. I just don't envy you the cost of food and vet bills when she gets bigger. :)
Great Pyrs are wonderful dogs and amazingly their food bills are not nearly as much as most people think. Their metabolism is slower than most large dogs. We had a wonderful pyr named Bandit. He guarded the chickens and the children. When we lost him to a heart defect it broke all of our hearts. They are wonderful, devoted dogs. Gentle giants. Enjoy!
You made a great choice!!
She is so cute.
GP's are wonderful dogs! Very happy for you both!
She is adorable and will guard your chickens when bigger!

Sadie is adorable. Enjoy her puppyhood. It passes all too quickly! |
She is pretty.
You're right, she is absolutely adorable. Enjoy.
What a cutie-pie. I'm sure your chickens will be safe with her to look after them.
Sadie is definitely one of the cutest fur babies I have seen.
Congratulations to both of you for choosing each other! |
Oh my gosh, how adorable
We have some of those precious dogs in our area and they sleep in the pens with the sheep to protect from roving bands of coyotes.
Oh, my goodness, what a cute puppy!! Those eyes....
What a wonderful choice of protector. She gets a job you love, you get an extra friend, and the chickens will be safe. Win, win, win! |
Sadie is very cute.
OMG, donna......please, please do not let her out until she gets much larger or you have her on a leash Chicken hawks will take her. They take squirrels from our backyard all the time.....one of our neighbor's poodle was snatched while she was out side with her.....please take care, she is such a cutie.
Such a cutie!
She is beautiful.
That is one beautiful puppy! They sound like awesome dogs.
I really like these dogs. If she is to be a guard dog you might take a close look on how she is to be trained.
http://www.milkandhoneyfarm.com/dogs/training.html Please post as she grows up. I would love to see and hear how she is settling in. They are wonderful dogs. It sounds like she comes from a line that was bred for guarding and not for show. |
You will have one of the only dogs out there that are bigger than mine. I just love big dogs. Mine is German Shepard and Great Dane mixed. Looks like a short haired German Shepard with a bad dye job, but I love every inch of him, and he is worth the food bill. Don't forget to have your new friend chipped. Less than a month after I had my first dog chipped, he got away from DH. I was so thankful someone told me about chipping dogs. Enjoy all the love that has just entered your life.
I just want to hug her!!! I LOVE big dogs- I'm a Great Dane collector, but any mid/ large dogs make me happy. Enjoy her!
She is so cute and adorable .:D
I love big dogs...but they do have weak heart......Love them while you can. Yours is a cutie pie
She's gorgeous. They are not common here (Western Australia), but my old veterinarian had one....huge dog, and a real sweetie. Hope you spend many happy years together (and may your chickens be safe).
Beautiful fur baby, every time I see another dog picture, I say I want one of those too. Yep they call me the crazy dog lady!

She is just too adorable.
Beautiful! I'd have gotten one, too, but the ticks are bad by us in the summer/fall and I just can't imagine going through both those coats to search her over.
But what a CUTIE PIE! She will do great! |
She is a cutie!
