Just now there is a thread about an invention that you could easily give up. I have a question.

Tell me an invention (or more than one if you like) that never should have come to light.

Here are a few

Motorcycles (friend of a friend had an accident recently)
Cigarettes (probably killed more people than tornadoes and hurricanes combined)
Switchblade knives

isnthatodd 06-11-2010 02:03 PM

alcoholic beverages

littlehud 06-11-2010 02:03 PM

cigarettes are the worst. How many people have they killed.

CarrieAnne 06-11-2010 02:10 PM

cigarrettes and chew. I have a son who uses chewing tobacco. Icky.

bearisgray 06-11-2010 02:16 PM

(some) men?

Pam 06-11-2010 02:35 PM

Gunpowder.

Sugarpumpkin 06-11-2010 02:40 PM

Guns, swords, anything to harm another human being...

no1jan 06-11-2010 02:42 PM

Cigarettes - need I say more

Chewing tobacco - My BIL lost his tongue and lower jaw due to chewing this c--p

Switchblades - they were only made to use as weapons

Oil Rigs - They were a disaster meant to happen

Houses on Stilts - Also a disaster meant to happen

Brass Knuckles - again a weapon

Aspestos

Street cleaners - do they really clean or just move it around?

craftybear 06-11-2010 03:06 PM

I could live without a cell phone. I have one but rarely use it and have it for mostly emergencies. Yet, people can't understand why I don't want them to call me on the cell just to chat. Because if you really want to call me, call me at home. If I am not there, leave a message, I'll get back to you. I won't talk on the phone while driving, and if I am out, it's because I am doing something and probably is not a good time to talk. Am I the only one that feels this way?

The other thing I can do without is high heels! Wore them when I was young, would not wear them now.

TanyaMas 06-11-2010 03:33 PM

money... because too many are too obsessed with it.
too many things ore overlooked and ignored in order for some to get it. it is used as an excuse to do alot of things that should never be done...

there is no excuse for money being so important that some people have to choose between medicine, food, lodging or any other necessity. the cost of basic necessities are ridiculous in some places.

yes it is and should a crime for some1 to be killed for a pair of shoes... but its also a crime that shoes cost what they do so that some feel they have to kill another to get some.

(soapbox on money over) lol sorry :D

I agree with the money

Food should not cost as much as it does!

Junk food! It's not good for you!

Soda, another thing not good for you.

Pornography, IT'S DISGUSTING!

Drugs that are bad for you...

Ciggerettes

Chewing Tobacco

cigars

Cars (In some cases, such as short distance trips)

I'm with you, too!

The rest of my list:

-- tobacco products of all kinds
-- those automated answering machines businesses use that make you hold forever and won't let you talk to a person
-- spandex, which a) does not make you look thinner, but instead clings to all your rolls and b) does not "wick away" sweat well enough to deal with mine
-- vinyl siding, which is uglifying the nation
-- carpeting made from petroleum products
-- comfort shoes, which are unjustifiably ugly. Just make beautiful shoes in sizes that fit real people's feet properly.
-- pen grippers - they make the pen harder to hold?
-- business suits, nylons, all that goes with them

Rap music!!!! lol!.....I could certainly live w/o it!

MistyMarie 06-11-2010 05:43 PM

Dry Clean Only anything!!!

Tongue Piercings/ Belly button piercings too

Moonpi 06-11-2010 06:00 PM

Swimsuits - why dress up to go in the water? Makes no sense to me.

Pantyhose

Cell phone - Huge intrusion in my life, but I got it when I was looking for work as an access number when I am online (dialup)

raptureready 06-11-2010 06:40 PM

Body piercings

Grotesque tatoos

Porn

Some people---the ones that are just taking up space a good person could inhabit. Not people that are just annoying but the really bad ones---the Jeffery Dalmers, John Wayne Gacys, and Richard Specks of the world.

The Blues---blue tooth, blue ray

I second the panty hose but I'd better keep my bathing suit. This much me doesn't need to be seen naked. That's an image nobody would want seared into their brain.

AND last but by far not least, BP and their oil spills.

sueisallaboutquilts 06-11-2010 06:47 PM

The media!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Specifically- the paparazzi!!!

Electric blankets

I have to agree with the bra thing. If men don't have wear them (they are out there that need them worse than I do) then why do I. The bikini. The thong, why do you need dental floss for your butt. Nearly everything that was mentioned on this thread.

I found that jumping on a trampoline with my kids requires a bra! I tried it once and my son loudly exclaimed that I definitely needed one! (My neighbors were out on their porch and I saw them immediately turn to see what he was talking about.) That ended my jumping without one on!

Ok I will totally agree with jumping, running and jogging. Oh and in church.

MistyMarie 06-11-2010 08:23 PM

Amen! I guess if one is less endowed, it is not a problem, but for those who are more blessed, I think it is not all that pleasing to see the wiggling and jiggling.

I also believe we never needed girdles... just bigger clothes!

TanyaMas 06-11-2010 08:47 PM

some things i think were invented by men just to make us uncomfortable. lol
bras (very needed, but not comfy)
girdles.. not needed or comfy, so the point is?
tampons (although i know, handy... but not too comfy)
etc. lol

lab fairy 06-11-2010 09:31 PM

HIGH HEELS! I know my daughter swears it makes your butt look good but I'm a comfort only kind of girl. Give me a good pair of athletic shoes any day.

Oh, when I was a teen I went horse back riding with a homemade halter top that was not the softest fabric and no bra. Talk about hurting!!! Bouncing was bad enough but I rubbed myself raw!!!! Hurt for a week!!!!
