I am sorry to say I've never been to Iowa; but I'm watching "StateFair" and they are singing: All I Know, I owe Iowa. They pronouce it I O WAY, long A. I've heard songs in 3 diff movies about Iowa, and they also say I o way - Is this how you say it in Iowa?
It's not anything big :) , I just always pronouced it I o wah. Either way, Iowa seems like a really nice place - always pictures of farms and fields - I love both of those things  sharet |
I was born in Iowa 73 years ago. My family all pronounced it I-o-wah. Of course we moved from there when I was 4 so I don't really know. LOL

I-o-wah.

I lived next door to Iowa for most of my life and even lived there for a couple of years. Only the old timers call it I-o-way (maybe because of the old songs?). All the people I know that actually live there say I-o-wah, as do I.
Definitely I-o-wah!
I-o-wah, but Iowa was named after the Ioway Indians.
I grew up in I-o-wah!! Still home to me :))
I-O-WAH! lol
