Been there done that with 3 of them. Chill out it won't last long and agree with each other that "whatever happens in the car, stays in the car". It will make for great stories later.

alikat110 07-12-2011 04:05 PM

I can help with 3 of those....all out of sanity!

Izaquilter 07-12-2011 04:05 PM

ohhhh it only gets better the older they get! grin & bear it!

pipp5 07-12-2011 04:10 PM

I totally understand! Went thru that a few years back myself. Twin boys will be 16 next year....may need to buy stock in Valium for that!

Furza Flyin 07-12-2011 04:11 PM

I am very proud of her. She is pretty responsible. Her last semester grades were 3.82! But she is my baby and I am going to miss her when she is all growed up. And I dont want her to get hurt.

QuiltingGrannie 07-12-2011 04:15 PM

You'll be just fine.
It's hard to watch the kids grow up. I still find myself thinking I am a certain age and then remember that my kids are only two years younger than that!

dsb38327 07-12-2011 04:45 PM

Probably much harder on you and Dad than it is on her. Never easy to let them grow up. Chocolate may help the jitters. ?. LOL.

ICU_FOSTERMOM 07-12-2011 04:49 PM

Hey FURZA,

I feel Your pain. Joe is 16 1/2 and we have told him that He is not mature enough . Each time He has a little hissy fit I mention that He needs to rid himself from that behavior before We will ever let Him get behind the wheel.

We def. will hold strong and firm on that. He would not be a very safe driver right now. He has experienced some awful things in his life but He still is so immature in so many ways.

Most Kids Joe's age will do a lot better.

SherriB 07-12-2011 05:04 PM

I feel your pain and terror! Our youngest will be 16 in September and wants to do the same. I will cry like a baby the first time she drives off by herself.

amma 07-12-2011 05:16 PM

Awww been there and did that 3 times... you and DH will survive  :D:D:D

blueangel 07-12-2011 06:08 PM

Hang in there.

b.zang 07-12-2011 06:12 PM

Don't worry, just sit beside her eating your Tums.
Then invest in driving lessons; they're worth every penny, especially if you can find a school that includes emergency driving. (But don't watch)

Ramona Byrd 07-12-2011 06:16 PM

Mine learned to drive a long, long time ago, but if it was today, my first rule would be==CELL PHONE IN THE BACK FLOOR AT ALL TIMES. If you are ever seen by any of us or friends texting and driving, your car/my car will be parked for a month and you will walk or take the bus for that month.

I had volunteered for a long time in Emergency at our hospital and seen the bodies of barely alive young people being pushed past me to ER with doctors and nurses running....

A lot of our rules were more or less negotiable but driving ones were set in cement. And anyone else driving our cars would be the same, unless you were in the back seat bleeding and on the way to the hospital. All had some sort of medical training, even the school teacher met her husband in EMT classes.

CARS CAN KILL.

Painiacs 07-12-2011 07:19 PM

Been there! Take a deep breath! Say a lot of prayers!

Murphy 07-12-2011 08:14 PM

Sending, sending (laughter). Congratulations on raising a responsible young person moving as planned into young adulthood. All will be well.

quilt-fanatic 07-13-2011 01:47 AM

My advice is - get your car body shop on the speed dial!!! No joke, our son had more fender benders (most were not his fault). Did you know that most accidents happen in parking lots??? We laugh about it now but at the time it wasn't so funny...

SueDor 07-13-2011 02:27 AM

Scarry times for parents when they learn to drive. I was always happy to see them when they came home.

Vickymomof6 07-13-2011 02:29 AM

It's not as bad as think it's going to be.
I have lived through it five times and next year will be my last one. But he is going to be the easiest because he already knows how to drive he only needs to learn the "rules" of the road.

My sympathies, Furza. My 2 oldest grandsons are BOTH taking their driver's tests on Friday. The oldest is going to be 20 in Sept. and the younger is 17. The 17 year old has been saying since he was about 14 that he would get his license before his brother, so you can be sure he will be in line first so he can say he beat his older brother in getting a drivers license. The older one will be driving to VT (Virginia Tech) in his 15 year old Lexus. I worry because he isn't very attentive when it comes to driving. A very smart kid but not comfortable behind the wheel. The 17 year old will be driving a 10 year old Jaguar. Poor kids

It won't help!...they wait for moments when the pills are wearing off to nail us...been there, done that....never want to do it again...
BTW, you may want to yank the radio out of whatever car she will be driving in the future....oldest son managed to wipe out 5 parked cars while tuning in a station on the radio.

Furza Flyin 07-13-2011 11:18 AM

It is just one of the trials of growing up. I think I lost more sleep over that one than any. She did a great job. She is now 38, her daughter is now 15 so we will she how she handles it in the coming year........

Jammin' Jane 07-13-2011 12:01 PM
