It's been so dry here in Texas that we've had a hard time keeping our garden going. Then my husband had an idea. He planted the potatoes and the onions together. When I asked him why he planted those two things in the same rows, he said "Well, I figure the onions will make the potatoes' eyes water and that will help with irrigation!"

Mulch, mulch, mulch.
And for some of my new pot plants (not THAT kind of pot) our local Dollar Tree has some containers of the water holding plastic bubbles. They can dry out but when wet they grab all the water an plant roots can grow into them and suck them dry till next watering. Some firms that have display, or specimen plants use these, they've been around for a long time.

So sorry about all the struggling gardens. We would miss our garden like everything, especially tomatos-YUM.
