 You & me both.

BettyAnn 10-14-2011 08:37 AM

I have read several and enjoyed every one of them

BellaBoo 10-14-2011 08:43 AM

I like the characters. I wish the level of writing would be higher then the 8th grade level.

CarrieC 10-14-2011 08:44 AM

I've never heard of them! But you can bet I'm heading over to my used bookstore right after work! THANK YOU For the hints!!!!

colleen1978 10-14-2011 09:31 AM

I've read all of them and I have to say that the last one is the one I enjoyed least. Now I have to figure out what to do with all of them as they are taking up too much room in my sewing room.

Those are my favorite also. Her writing puts you right into the story, doesn't it? Edie

Ladies, I only read the "Aloha Quilt" and certainly did enjoy it. Is there a sequel to follow reading her books?

Aren't they the greatest? I have read quite a few of them and they make you feel you are right with them and part of their group:

sasissy 10-14-2011 11:04 AM

Love love, love these books! I have read 8 so far and just finished The Sugar Camp Quilt. If only a small part of it is based in fact they are most enlightening.

Sandra in Minnesota 10-14-2011 11:08 AM

I thought the "Wedding Quilt" was already out. I have read all of her books, and I love them.

lorils 10-14-2011 11:15 AM

Can you get them on the Kindle?

sasissy 10-14-2011 11:16 AM

I have gotten some for my Kindle. I also got the first 6 - in groups of three in hard cover.

I read the entire set last winter, in the order that she wrote them. You can check out her website and find more interesting information about her and her work. Also, check out the quilting section of your local bookstore. She has several Elm Creek Quilt books in publication and they have many of the patterns worked on by the characters in her books!

I have read all of them so far and liked them all.

I've been reading the "Annie's Attic" series and I just love the quaint Maine town they take place with. I'm from New England and they are a cure for homesickness until I can move back home soon I hope. I'll be living in a small town again and can't wait for that life again.

Will be helping to promote the NEW book "The Wedding quilt" due out soon!

I have them all in audio books. Love them to pieces. I like the slow pace, the quiet excitement of the stories. I am not underwhelmed. I am just totally whelmed (I don't know if that is a word or not. but it is how I feel!) Can't wait for the next one to come out and yes, I read them in order and will shortly start all over again.

I can't wait to get "The Wedding Quilt". I also want to make "Sylvia's Wedding Quilt". I don't know if I ever will. First off, I need the book with directions; secondly, I have to know that I would be able to do as well as the other quilters. See what I mean???? All the characters in the book become friends! Maybe that is what I love about the books. They are my friends. Edie

CraftyCarolyn 10-14-2011 12:43 PM

I also enjoy the 'Elm Creek' and 'Annies Attic" books.

Another author to check out is Marie Bostwick...
stories about a quilt shop.

a website to check out: http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/
you can look at authors/books and also will tell you
other books that are similar to what you are searching for.
Enjoy!

jeanne307 10-14-2011 01:01 PM

I agree... I love the characters... they are so great.

bvpklp 10-14-2011 01:05 PM

I have all of Jennifer Chiavarini's books. I enjoyed them all except the last one "The Union Quilter". Just too slow moving!

LUANNH 10-14-2011 01:23 PM

Thanks JEANIE307 I fouund the list but was not sure which books were part of the series. This sure helps. Now to start finding the earlier books to start in order. LOL Thanks again, LuAnn

Eileen 10-14-2011 01:25 PM

I have read them all, from local library, in order. I really enjoyed them. A fairly quick and easy read. I haven't decided if I want to purchase the companion quilting books though. I don't think that I would make any of the quilts.

Marilynsue 10-14-2011 01:40 PM

I loved all of her books too. She came to our quilt guild a while back and showed us some of the quilts from her books. She told us that people come up to her all the time asking questions about her character and their lives today. She always has to remind her readers that these are fictious characters, that they don't exist and therefore don't have lives! She was a lot of fun to listen to.

debbieoh 10-14-2011 01:52 PM

I have read them all!! only one I really didn't care for was the cookbook one. Can't remember the name. have 4 to offer for sale later. The rest I got at the library

You don't have to read them in order but some are better read before the others. She does a good job with character development early on, so read some of the early ones first and then you should be fine to read any of them.

grandme26 10-14-2011 02:51 PM

I have read the first three and now have 6 more waiting for me and more coming in.

komammy 10-14-2011 02:55 PM

I have read all of her books. They were like peanuts, couldn't get them fast enough from my library. I'm so looking forward to the next one. I would love to find a place like that to go and spend a week going to classes and with the atmosphere like that.

travelinggramma 10-14-2011 04:20 PM

I found them at a local library a few years ago. I was going thru alot and these really helped me veg. I wanted to go there so bad!! Still haven't gone on a retreat - but it is on my bucket list.

This is an excellent site if you want to get into a series of books and read them in order. http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/

Jackie R 10-14-2011 04:47 PM

They are very good stories - I've just read a couple of them in the last year or two but will definitely read more.

I'm reading the Union Quilters now also; and for some reason I'm not enjoying it as much as I have the others. But I'll keep plugging away at it

I have to agree. I just started the Union Quilters today and it seems, I don't know, confusing in its character development. I find myself having to look back to figure out relationships

I like most of her books, but had to stop reading 1/4 way through Union Quilter. I just couldn't get into it

cowgirlquilter 10-14-2011 04:54 PM

I have really enjoyed all of them. Can crank out one in a day, and I read them while on vacation this summer. We drove to Oklahoma (well, actually I read, and my hubby drove)....lol!

Me too. I have read all up to now.
My faves are the Sugar Camp Quilt, the Runaway Quilt, the Lost Quilter. and the Union Quilters.

This is a wonderful book series and can't wait for the new book to come out.

Thank you for saying. I was beginning to think I was the only one that felt this way. The first one was very enjoyable, but by the third one, they became too...predictable...they reminded me of what happened to John Grisham books. I've started the others, but just can't get into them.

I agree. I read The Quilter's Apprentice, and tried to read another one, but just couldn't get interested. I do like the accompanying quilt books, though.

ScrappyAZ 10-14-2011 07:27 PM

Didn't care for The Union Quilters, but after reading The Aloha Quilt, I'm obsessed with wanting to make a Hawaiian applique block. Just a block because I don't think I can make an entire Hawaiian quilt.

janiesews 10-14-2011 08:22 PM

I have enjoyed them too and am reading the Union Quilters now.

When I checked Amazon, it looks like all or almost all of her stand alone books are available for the Kindle. The books that are three-in-one aren't in e-book format. Looks like I need to visit Cosco as someone in TX said she got the newest one (Wedding Quilt) there. I am an avid reader and my reading is done on the Nook, but am thinking about the Kindle Fire so that I can get quilting magazine in e-format.

I enjoy and have all of the Chiaverini books and sure would enjoy going to a quilt retreat like the Elm Creek one.

winter012 10-15-2011 01:50 AM

These are the BEST books!!!!!! I've picked up quite a few at Barnes & Noble.com, in their used paperback section. Often you can get NEW or almost new books for a fraction of the price of a new book. I have a whole shelf of Elm Creek Quilts books, & wouldn't sell or trade them for anything!!!!!!!
