PM me for the mailing address. FQ's must be received by the 15th of the month to be eliigible for the winning FQ's.

I ask that you check in on the board by posting something, so we know you are still with us on a weekly basis.

I'm in again! I was okay with last month's loss but need to keep the ball rolling. FQ will be mailed ASAP.

countrymaid 05-31-2013 11:18 AM

I'm in. June will be my recovery from DD's wedding on the 8th. I plan to finish the table runners tomorrow morning I have half of them done.

Pam H 05-31-2013 11:56 AM

I'm in for June.
Boy, caring for a baby is so much more draining at 55 than it was at 23. My back gets so tired from carrying the car seat when we go places. I'll have to stop making any plans and just stay home on Allie days. LOL

Teddybear Lady 05-31-2013 11:58 AM

I'm in again. Was down in May but not much, 2.2 lbs. Hoping I can get in some more exercise. I know this really helps.

Vanogay 05-31-2013 02:51 PM

Well, I'm in again for June. My weight loss isn't great, but it is loss - and I like that.

Vanogay 06-01-2013 03:45 AM

Got on my scales this morning to start the month and I am so amped!! I am in the 160s for the first time in a very long time. The weight was coming down, coming down, but to see 168 register - WOW - that's a number to be excited about. According to the AMA and all those charts they put out, I should, for my height and age, weigh about 141. Don't know about getting there, but I'd love to see the 150s register on my scales - the LOW 150s. I'm getting there, come on, ladies, I have enough enthusiasm for all of us - let's do this! My terrific Tuesdays will be every day, not just Tuesday - drink that water, pass up that snack (tomorrow is church and they always have the donut holes for hospitality - none for me).

meanmom 06-01-2013 04:29 AM

I'm in for June. I was down a little but eating on the run with my dad has messed it up some. I decided to go to Hilton Head with my brother for a week so I am there now. SO many goodies. They eat a lot of bad things. We are going to water aerobics in a few minutes. We will probably spend the day laying by the pool and at the beach. The waitress comes from the bar all day offering food and drinks. We usually are bad and have a drink or 2 and order their food. So many yummy bad choices. LAst year I didn't gain any weight, we usually get in a bike ride and a beach walk most days too.

ljs317 06-01-2013 08:51 AM

I'm still here but life is still crappy. I have one nice leg and one elephant leg. It's so frustrating. Lately somedays when I get up its almost normal but by evening it's back to elephant size. At least it's not turning black any more. All this from a fall up the basement steps onto my knee. Ugh. Weight loss still going in the right direction slightly down. This board is helping. Thanks.

Beachbound 06-01-2013 01:08 PM

Hang in there, Ladies! It sounds like so many of us are dealing with life issues right now.

Kathleen, I am thrilled for you!!! Seeing that new number will help keep you on track :)

Pam, those babies really are heavier now that we're in our 50s but oh the joy of having them helps ease that pain (well, that and Motrin, lol!)

meanmom 06-01-2013 03:02 PM

Have a great relaxing time in Hilton Head. We started the day with a water aerobics class. Then headed to our cabana at the beach. The weather is great. About 83 with a gentle breeze. I spent a lot of my day sitting in a lounge chair reading a book with a tasty drink in my other hand. We got in the pool a few times and in the ocean. The waves were a little high today so we didin't spend a lot of time in the ocean. My DD and I went for about a 3 mile walk down the beach. Now we are cooking shish-ka bobs on the grill. Man this is the life. I need to find me someone to give me the money to continue like this.
One of the golf cart shuttle drivers is a great cook. THe aerobics teacher was telling us about his awesome cheesecakes. He doesn't give out his recipes but he did tell me how he makes it. A maple bacon cheesecake topped with peaches and several other unique ones. Apparently a couple of local restaurants sell them. I think we are going to head to one tomorrow. Hope I don't gain too much weight.
Pat

Beachbound 06-01-2013 04:09 PM

Pat, enjoy your vacation; they come so few & far between. Relaxing at the beach sounds pretty good to me right now.

JuneBillie 06-01-2013 09:00 PM

Well wishes for all.

lauriejo 06-02-2013 05:23 AM

Okay I'm in again. I really need to up my game, I'd like to lose some serious belly before the family reunion at the end of July. The last couple of weeks in May I quit my walking and so I ended up at a stalemate for the month. So this month I'm getting back on my feet. I think I will try to walk before work instead of waiting until evening.

meanmom Hilton Head sounds wonderful! A few splurges on vacation are good for you. You will come home more rested and motivated.

Lisa what has the doctor said about the swelling in your leg? My left foot, it's the one with the toe I keep breaking, swells everytime I stand too long or if it gets really hot. I keep forgetting to ask the doctor when I am in for something else, and it isn't bothering me enough to go in just for that.

Kathleen congrats on making the 160's, isn't it wonderful to see the numbers change! I haven't seen the 160's in years, maybe this will be my year.

Pam I am looking forward to having babies to lug around again, but not quite yet since DS is still in college and not working even. I think it would be easier to plop the little one on your hip instead of the car seat, remember when it seemed like it was a permanent fixture?

I looked up info on the cinnamon and honey for weight loss. All the sites I read stressed that it had to be raw honey, not the processed stuff from the grocery. Guess I'll start checking out the farm markets this week. Here's a link to an article on livestrong - http://www.livestrong.com/article/10...y-lose-weight/

Shadowirish 06-02-2013 07:28 AM

Best wishes for all and extra prayers to those who need them. Like many May was not so good and I've nothing to blame but my own bad choices....here's to a better June for all!

JuneBillie 06-02-2013 11:59 AM

God Bless all who are sick or have family that are ill. Happy for those on vacation or just taking a break to relax. Enjoy your weekend!

Jim's Gem 06-02-2013 12:50 PM

I'm "sort of" in for June. You have my fat quarter already. I will be traveling for a month from the 17th of June till the 17th of July, home for two days then gone for 5 more. I don't own a lap top. So I may not be able to report in, I won't be near a scale either.........

Oh well, hope everyone does great!

newdoda 06-03-2013 05:27 AM

Good morning lovely ladies! I am new to this Quilt forum so I'm not quite sure how everything works, however, I am interested in joining this weight loss challenge. I'm guessing PM means private message and I need to do that to get the address to mail the FQ (which I figured out after a while meant fat quarter) ha ha. I'm a slow learner, lol. Really need to lose more than a few pounds and hope having some buddies and a challenge will be the remedy. Working on a "Quilt Value" quilt for my 4yo DGS and really need to get busy with that so I can present it to him in July when he comes to visit. I only have about 200-300 HST so far (which is the easy part; it will be the laying it out that will be the challenge). I would probably categorize my experience in quilting somewhere between beginner and intermediate, so always looking for the wisdom from all levels. Ok off to the gym (even though it's a rainy stay in the house and quilt day). Hope everyone has a beautiful and productive day :D !

Vanogay 06-03-2013 06:01 AM

Newdoda, welcome to the group. Yep, you need to get that FQ (also called a skinny quarter in our group) off to Cindy. Keep posting through the month, letting us know of your progress. Post pictures of your quilts as well, it's fun to see what everyone else is working on. Keep working on the loss and you could win all the beautiful fabrics that are sent in each month! Welcome again..

Beachbound 06-03-2013 12:21 PM

My June FQ went postal today. I was able to workout in the pool today as well. My walking group switched from walking in the heat to walking in the pool. I had a nice 1 1/2 hour workout and didn't melt after we were finished.

Very nice, I do wish I had a pool close enough for me to walk in or do the water aerobics.

I will be melting here in Texas soon enough

JuneBillie 06-03-2013 01:31 PM

Newdoda welcome to the group. What you are working on sounds great. I am another one that wish there was a pool here for me to exercise in. It would be easier on my joints too.

CindyA 06-03-2013 01:58 PM

Making better choices: we have ice cream in the house and I've barely touched it!! The other night I decided I wanted some and literally only took one small scoop. And that was enough, amazing. I used to overflow my bowl with it. The best part is I really don't even think about it or sit around wanting it. Haven't excercised in a while, so that is my goal for this week. (I'm in for June and sent my FQ in along with the May FQ.)

QuilterMomma 06-03-2013 02:25 PM

Wow, I just found this thread. This sounds like fun. I need to loose approximately 28 pounds to be at my goal ideal weight for me. I am a couple of days late, but I know what my scale said on the first, because it said the same thing at me today. DH was cooking again and then had two birthdays so made homemade ____________. Gave half of them away, yes two desserts. This way there is less temptation in the house. I will be glad to send in a FQ. I have to dig one out or make one.

createfourpaws 06-03-2013 02:58 PM

Welcome to the new comers. I am happy to have each and everyone of you here. Please feel free to share anything that you desire. What you are working on currently, struggles and encouraging.

Tomorrow we will have a post of Taboo Tuesday or Terrific Tuesday......something to avoid or to try to add to your routine.

Remember you are in control of what you decide to put in your mouth. Eat smart, drink plenty of water and try to exercise. (my downfall).

CindyA that is awesome that you satisfied yourself with a small scoop instead of the overflowing bowl. I had been the same way in the past. Now when I desire any ice cream, I go get a double scoop and I am done for several months. I also desire from time to time a Dairy queen blizzard........I use to get the large now I get the small. Little changes make a big difference.

Pam H 06-03-2013 06:02 PM

Welcome to our newcomers!!
I had a fun weekend. Traveled to Iowa to help celebrate my mom's 85th birthday. My sister came back to WI with me and will be spending the week. You would think we would do some fun stuff but we will work in my gardens, paint a bedroom and help my daughter move. We just went to Sam's and bought all healthy food - berries, veggies and hummus. We even walked this evening.
Bad news may be coming soon. Hubby called today and said they have a big announcement tomorrow. He is thinking the company is closing. I'm being more hopeful that maybe it is a buyout.

QuilterMomma 06-03-2013 06:28 PM

It was tough, but tonight I had to say no to my DH's tunnel pizza. Oh my goodness, was so hard. Good thing I ate a good lunch of broiled chicken with sauted onions at work. Yep left overs, but so good.
Thanks for saying welcome. I am not a real good person at loosing weight. It has always been a challenge to loose it. Was always on the thin side and with the five back injuries, yep, can't exercise as much, it is so much harder and being older now. I just need to stay on track and not fad diet. I think I will go back to the LifeStyle Diet that my mom was on. Did it once and lost 10 pounds then hurt back again and did not stay on track, DH cooks so good. So will work hard in loosing the 28 pounds I would love to see off so I can wear my girls clothes instead of them wearing my sizes that are to small in my closet. Here we goooooooooooo

Vanogay 06-04-2013 04:03 AM

Terrific Tuesday. Here we go and I've got to quit reading those magazines in the doctor's office. This one from, of all places, A Man's World. More Food, Fewer Calories by Frank G. Bottone, Jr. Ph.D. I won't copy all of his article, but salient points - one of the biggest challenges in cutting calories is dealing with hunger. There's nothing fun about eating less food than you're used to, but cutting down isn't just about volume and it's not just a matter of shoveling less food into your mouth. It's also about energy density, a simple concept that enables you to consume significantly fewer calories without axing half your diet.
The article goes on to talk about energy density being defined as the number of calories divided by the number of grams in a food item. Groan - can't do the math!! Foods containing mostly water or fiber approach zero calories per gram and are considered "energy lean" while high-fat "energy-dense" foods can contain up to nine calories per gram. Choosing energy lean foods works well because it allows you to eat your usual amount of food - if not more - while still taking in fewer calories. I think I can handle that. Okay, what do we look for? Whole grains, cereals, lean cuts of meat, most fruits and vegetables are all nutrient-rich, energy-lean foods. Avoid (or limit) deep-fried anything, cheeses and cream-based sauces/soups.
Don't know whether the 'density' is listed on our labels, but keeping in mind the information on whole grains, cereals fruits and veggies, etc will be a big help.
Dr. Bottone did list some foods on the density scale - (use or avoid)
Density Scale 0 Lettuce (0.1) Broccoli (0.3) Apple (0.5)
Density Scale 1 Tilapia (1.0) Baked potato (1.1) Egg (1.6)
Density Scale 2 Salmon (2.0) Miso soup (2.0) Guacamole (2.0)
Density Scale 3 Pork sausage (3.4) Clif Bar (3.4) Oatmeal (3.8)
Density Scale 4 Sugar doughnut (4.0) Popcorn (4.0) Granola Bar (4.7)
Density Scale 5 Ranch Sauce (5.0) Fried bacon (5.4) Corn chips (5.5)
Density Scale 6 Almonds (6.0) Walnuts (6.0) Pecans (6.7)
Density Scale 7 Butter (7.0) Mayonnaine (7.1) Macadamias (7.3)
Density Scale 8 Olive Oil (8.0) Canola Oil (8.8) Corn Oil (8.9)
Density Scale 9 Pure Fat

So --today can be a Terrific Tuesday or a Taboo Tuesday - you choose.

Beachbound 06-04-2013 05:38 AM

Kathleen, This is great info! I was just thinking how good watermelon is tasting right now and that has to be a zero  I wonder where cheese is on this list. Sadly I think that may be the next thing I need to give up.

Isn't it great to have some new friends here? Yippee!!!

QuilterMomma 06-04-2013 07:41 AM

Something on the life plan diet that my mom went on and lost over 100 pounds in a year, yes a year, was that the lettuce should not be head lettuce but Romaine and leaf lettuce. It is richer in vitamins and causes the body to burn the fat. Just a thought to add to your info.

QuilterMomma 06-04-2013 07:43 AM

Also, I will look less hippy doing this with you gals than I do in my photo. My daughters helped me find a dress that complimented my wider bottom half. Also the gals at the store said that when you pose for a photo like that, you need to rest your hand just below your waist line so you do look slimmer instead of accentuating the wrong place. Now when this works with you gals supporting me, i think I need to take another photo in my daughter's dress so I show off the wonderful success. Sounds like a plan. Now to execute. Ad the A Team would say, "I love it when a plan comes together".

countrymaid 06-04-2013 09:08 AM

Hi Ladies, so far being careful with stress eating. DD gets married on Saturday in the front lawn at the farm. Can't believe I have so much yet to do. I did finish my table runners, nothing fancy but in her purple color. I'll be away from my computer until next week. Pray for dry weather and the the rest will fall into place. Saw the nurse at the pain clinic yesterday and she gave me a pep talk on letting others help out. So I asked some of my friends to help with the food and they can share in the day with me. So glad I took that advise. I'll tell you all about it next week.

JuneBillie 06-04-2013 10:31 AM

countrymaid I am sure your daughter will have a lovely wedding. You will be able to rest some after it is over, but enjoy it all while it is happening. They go by so fast. Share some pics with us when you can.

createfourpaws 06-04-2013 11:29 AM

Our May winner is Beachbound with 8 lbs lost. Congrats. Every little pound lost is one less to carry around.

Pam H 06-04-2013 12:47 PM

Weddings are so much fun! (let's not talk about how much work they are)
Congrats Dody! Two pounds a week is just what is recommended. You are doing it right.
Well, hubby is home. The company is closing their Minnesota branch. He has a job until Aug 3 but doesn't have to go to work so at least he has the summer off. Hopefully he can find another job fairly soon. There are 2 companies here in our town that are possibilities except that he has worked for both of them and quit so who knows if they will hire him back. We are/were planning to remodel our master bath this fall. That may have to be put on hold but that certainly won't be the end of the world. At least I haven't ordered anything for it yet. I was very close to doing that!
I did Zumba this morning and have eaten only healthy things today. So far, so good! It really helps to have my sister here and we can encourage each other. She is going to make gf brownies today that have black beans.

Beachbound 06-04-2013 01:39 PM

Wow! I am shocked but very pleased, thanks so much!!!!

JuneBillie 06-04-2013 04:10 PM

Beachbound I left my congrats on May thread, but now another Congratulations!!!! here too. It feels great doesn't it?

I did good today. Haven't remembered to eat much today. That is a first. lol... Big thing though is even with things going on, I just came in from working in my flower garden. Wow! Such a bunch of weeds, but now I am beginning to see all my perennials blooming that I planted last year.

I also have some wonderful mint growing and looking beautiful that a person on the board sent me last year. I love mint in both cold and hot tea.

I also finally have my cat scan for my neck and spine scheduled for this Thursday. I am so happy about that. Cindy, that morning I will send in my fat/skinny quarter.

One more thing: I seen a recipe I want to try for a low calorie desert.-- In long pan, box of sugar free cake mix, or 2 small boxes of the jiffy cake mix. After it's poured in then on top of that sugar free vanilla pudding, then on top of that layer of strawberries, then a layer of the sugar free glaze, and top all that off with cool whip. The only part of this recipe that isn't sugar free is the cool whip. Chill in the refrigerator until it is good and set. Enjoy!!

Vanogay 06-05-2013 03:38 AM

JuneBillie, I must assume you pour the pudding and fruit after the cake is baked? Sounds stupid, I know, but there are some desserts where the cake is not baked.
Oh, congratulations to you Dody - great job!!

newdoda 06-05-2013 06:23 AM

Wow!

Thank you! That is a lot of really great info. Makes really good sense! I would just like to add that for myself I try to address the issue of yeast. It causes me a lot of bloating. I try to follow the Candida Diet as closely as possible; because it is so restrictive I adjust it accordingly. I drink Pao D'Arco tea and use grapeseed extract (the liquid form) and I love to put it in my steel cut oats. What I have come to realize but am still trying to accept is that for me sugar is poison. I only use organic stevia which is somewhat expensive but I found it to be most helpful when I need sweet. I am really enjoying this site for so many reasons; the positivity is phenomenal! Thanks for all the wonderful insight  ! Everyone have a GREAT day and much weight loss success!!
