Is it just me?

Is anyone else tired of trying to figure out all the abbreviations (DS, OMG, DIL, etc.) that people are using
in their posts? Why not just spell it out!

that and spell correctly? I do agree actually, but everyone is in a hurry these days. My friend in England just asked me to explain a few abbreviations to her. Those I don't know, i don't worry about.

Considering how poorly people spell these days, I think those abbreviations, as annoying as they are, are still preferable to the atrocious spelling you see all too often.

It took me a while to figure out some of the abbreviations, but once I did I like it so much better than poor spelling.

I like the abbreviations because I have trouble typing and with spelling mostly due to dyslexia, (I can't even spell it funny i know) as well as a poor public school education. Had a couple of teachers literally yell and scream at me for trying to use phonics to read and learn to spell. This was back when Whole language was a huge flavor of the month is teaching. there is an abbreviation help page if you are having trouble. and I hate to say it but the abrevs are here to stay due to texting.

I appreciate your feelings of not knowing what's meant by all the abbreviations. Years ago, when they were just coming into play, I tried to figure out what LOL meant. The best I could come up with (since it came in an email from a very religious friend) was Lord Oh Lord! (It would have fit in the context.) But I finally asked my daughter, and she clued me in.

However, the abbreviations are here to stay, and I think that's only proper. In any occupation or hobby you just have to learn the language, and that includes technical terms and abbreviations. Ask about the ones you don't understand, search on the web for lists (there are lots of them out there), and you will soon be familiar with the ones that pop up here. What's really confusing to me is when people try to use an abbreviation but get it wrong. I'm used to DP9 (instead of D9P - disappearing 9-patch), but some of the others can be hard to figure out.

It is a proven fact that our brains don't process vowels. Mine has a hard time with consonants. But, I do pretty good with Wheel of fortune. hehehehe!! Still don't know what a BOM is. heheheh!

I agree most of the time they can be annoying. That's why I wish we had spell check; I hate misspelled words (I go to email and use spell check all the time). If I can't figure out the abbreviation I ignore it.
