I have a Sony E-Reader and the Nook and love them both. Didn't think I would because I love to have the BOOKS in my hand-must be the smell of paper or something? It is easy to download to both systems.

I have the same Kindle version you have. The switch is on the bottom edge. Just push it to the right for a couple of seconds and it will go off. I always turn mine off. I've read two and one half books and have not had to charge it since I first got it.
The users manual on the Kindle website is really good.

Thanks Verna - turning it off completely appeals to me more than those 'odd' pics for screensavers. I just found out how to get it to read to me. Problem was I dozed off in the middle, and it had read me another couple of chapters while I was asleep! At this rate, it will finish before I do. I've gone back to where I went to sleep, and I'll carry on reading. I'll soon have the hang of it.

:-D :-D :-D

Not sure about this, but if you plan to download library books, check with library 1st. Not all of them offer E Reader service. Ours doesn't & due to money crunch, has no plans to.

You have to go to Barnes and Noble to get them? What about Borders? I may have missed the answers to these questions because there is so much info on here...but has really helped me to decide which one to get.

It's sounds a bit stilted and mechanical, but perfectly understandable. I prefer the lady to the man's voice, she messes up punctuation a bit, and sounds really funny when trying to pronounce 'foreign' sounding place names as I think it is done more phonetically than anything, but I still find it a great facility. Click on the button that has Aa on it, scroll down to turn on the voice, then choose which one you want (male/female) You can also adjust the speed of the reading on that window too, then adjust the sound at the bottom of your kindle, on the left -...+

I have been considering a Kindle and I'm happy to find this conversation going on! Everyone says the battery lasts a long time, which is certainly a great selling point. What actually comes with the Kindle? Does a charger come with it? And do you have buy a car charger?
