I love my Kindle, I have had one about a year and a half, wish I had gotten one sooner.

JanieH 08-04-2011 03:18 AM

I have a Kindle 2 for over 3 years. It was either get something like that or buy more book shelves. I love my Kindle and it is almost always with me. I have downloaded close to 500 books and games on it; many of the books/games were free or $2.99 or less!

I have a Kindle and I love it!

Quilt-Till-U-Wilt 08-04-2011 03:52 AM

I've only had my kndle about a month but I love it. I used to frantically try to finish a book before it was due at the library and now it doesn't matter how long it takes to read it. I love to take it with me. I used to carry 5-6 books when I go to the beach now I can carry hundreds in my purse. Tnanks for the sites. Can you download just like Amazon or do you need the wire to plug into the computer? I'm still learning the fine points.

I have a NookColor. I love it! It is very user friendly. I like being able to see magazines in color. You can get a Certified Pre-owned one for $199 on the Barnes and Noble site. It has the same warrenty as a brand new. Hope this helps.

The library is 60 miles round trip so i just do not go. I think I would like it.. Now how do I save for that and not spend it on fabrics?

Overstock.com had some refurbished Nooks at an excellent price. DH got one and it works awesomely. I have the Nook color and it is fabulous. Nicest part is I don't have to go to the library, I use my library card number, got to the ebook part of the local libraries website and download the books from there. When they are due, they just automatically go back (welll, they actually just stop opening on the device). I went through 2 other readers before finding the Nook that actuallly does library downloads as advertised. Well worth the money.

I personally see no reason to buy an e-reader. I now get books or other material from my local library (that is what some of my real estate tax goes to)since it is associated with a network of some sort things come from many libraries...I haven't purchased from book stores in a long time....garage sales are fun to look thru, sometimes something interesting may be there. While traveling long distances, or when sewing I do like the audio books. I guess the fact that one has to pay for "electronic books" just bothers me.....I know some are free, but I think there is a charge for others...then, of course, as everything else electronic, there will always be an "upgrade" to the system......JMHO

I forgot to mention, my library said in Dec. you'll be able to download books from the libraary on your kindle.

FERSID 08-04-2011 04:31 AM

Had my Kindly for about 2 years & love it.

I've even downloaded some sewing reference manuals, etc.

Great to have and you can easily take it with you wherever you go.

Thanks for a heads up on The Help was just thinking of looking it up on the kindle this morning. Now I will.
Thanks

Quilt-Till-U-Wilt 08-04-2011 05:25 AM

I never purchase books unless they're quilting books that I will use over and over. Once I've read a novel I'm done with it so I never buy one. I haven't paid for an e-book yet. If you need to read the best sellers when they come out then it will get expensive. I don't care how old a book is if it's good reading. It's mind boggeling to me that I can carry all those books around in a tiny package, that's smaller then 1 book. This site made me decide to buy one and I thank you all. It goes with me everywhere

grandjan 08-04-2011 05:52 AM

I have one but rarely use it. There's no problem with it. It works great and I could list a dozen advantages. I think it's just that I'm used to the feel of a book in my hands but I can't quite get over the hurdle. I have a book loaded right now that I really want to read but find myself passing it over in favor of some paperback.

QuiltforPD 08-04-2011 05:53 AM

I love my Kindle too. I don't have to worry about the size of a books print anymore! I can read whatever I want because I can enhance the font to what is comfortable for me. This is just amazing technology! I also LOVE that the 'screen' isn't like a computer monitor. It is e-ink and very easy on the eyes!

Ladyjanedoe 08-04-2011 05:53 AM

I have a Kindle.

Joyce DeBacco 08-04-2011 05:57 AM

Even though I have published books on all the digital formats, I still haven't bought an e-reader yet. There are just so many, I get confused as to which I should get.

Plus, I'm not much of a techie. I'm happy I know how to program my VCR. Yes, I still have one and use it all the time.

Garage sales where I live are simply awful. It's big business here and people shove and push. There's nothing I want cheaply that will make me deal with that. Plus, most of the used stuff smells like 90 years worth of cigarette smoke anyway.

I have a Kindle, Christmas present from DS, and I use it waiting to get into appointments and when our home power goes out and TV is gone. I love it and there are lots of free books to download as well from different sites.

Autumn Quilts 08-04-2011 06:22 AM

kindle love it...my droid has an app for kobo. But I carry my Kindle with me every where I go. I just love it.

Val in IN 08-04-2011 06:31 AM

I have the Nook Color and just LOVE it, I can read, play games, get on the web, check my e-mail, listen to music, show people pictures of my grandkids. Best investment in me I've made in a long time!!

meetoo82 08-04-2011 06:32 AM

I have had mine for a couple of months and love it. I still go to the library and get books to hold in my hand when I want the comfort only a printed book can give. My library is expecting to have kindle capability later this year.
  :D

I have a nook and I love it the only problem is it is taking some of my quilting time. But that will stop when I start my next project!

nancy59 08-04-2011 07:26 AM

I have a nook and love it, great for vacations since I read so much. I tried the free books from Barnes & Noble, but found they were just part books or not my style, I really haven't had to buy books since my friends buy me gift cards, I just have to figure out which ones I really want and am willing to wait until they go down into the $5.00 range.

zkosh 08-04-2011 07:32 AM

I have an Ipad and a Kindle. I love the Ipad for travel, for checking email and keeping up with this board. It's nice to use in the evening when I am watching TV with my husband, too.

I bought myself a Kindle for my birthday in January because of the size and ease of ordering books. I got 3G because I am sometimes at my parents or other places and don't have wireless and I am obsessive about reading. I didn't feel the need for color because of what I like to read and I still collect my quilt books. Since I read each night lying down in bed the smaller Kindle is perfect for me!

Linda58 08-04-2011 07:43 AM

I bought the original Kindle before they were even out (pre-ordered it) Love love love it!!! Then my hubby started reading on it,so I decided to go buy the newest version. WOW, it is so light. Love it even more. I also put audio books on my Kindle.

My kids got me a Nook Color for Christmas and I LOVE it but it sometimes interferes with my sewing,LOL

Kairos Dan 08-04-2011 07:57 AM

I use a Kobo.

Bonnie P 08-04-2011 07:58 AM

I have downloaded many, many free books on my Nook and they are complete books. If you read the reviews about the books they tell if they are full or sample books. Free Friday's are wonderful as well.

caspharm 08-04-2011 08:04 AM

I have a nook and would love to get a nook color. I use it more for traveling than for regular reading. It was great on the cruise last year, even though it turned out they had a library on board and I didn't use it as much as planned.

I love the free Friday books from B&N.

wickn34 08-04-2011 08:13 AM

I got one for Christmas. Love my kindle.

Love my Kindle, especially since our library is hardly open anymore due to budget cuts. The vast majority of my Kindle books were free, which is an added plus.

Marysewfun 08-04-2011 08:58 AM

I just bought a Kindle and waiting for delivery - - - in the meantime (and what got me started) I downloaded the free PC application from Amazon on my lap top and have been reading ever since - I love the concept, and books I would never have known about - not to mention how many free or nominally priced. I am very excited over it - and the computer and Kindle are supposed to synchronize to each other. I look foreward to the Kindle being a constant companion.
