I receive the Quilting Board message board digest everyday in my email. I don't get the chance to read them every day so I may have 3 or more plus the extra weekly one sometimes. I read the main topics, the pictures and general chit-chat, as well as skim thru the classifieds.
I find that I don't login when going thru the emails, so I don't reply to most posts because when I do login I am sent to the Home page, I then have to go back to the email to find the topic title that I wanted to reply to and search for it. Then I find out that there may be 7 pages of responses, and don't bother to post after all. Does anyone read all the pages of responses?
My point is... that just because I don't post frivolously I still consider myself a "regular".

Peckish 07-27-2011 08:56 AM

I don't bother with the posts that have 7 pages of responses, either - it gets pretty frustrating because there are SO MANY posts saying the same thing over and over and over... it's obvious no one is reading anything.

moonwork42029 07-27-2011 08:58 AM

I read a lot of them also and don't post after seeing many many pages of posts...however when the topic strikes my fancy I will read each and every post and then make a comment so I can check on further remarks or developments within the topic.

I know when I post a topic it makes me feel good to even see pages of "good" "great" or "I like its" ... a few words never hurt regardless how many times they are said.

Guess I contradict what I do with what I like but mmmmm I'll have to think about it more.

bearisgray 07-27-2011 09:01 AM

It only matters if you want to place an ad in the classifieds to SELL something or in the donations/PIF section to ASK for something.

There are times when there seems to be nothing new, useful, or relevant to add to a thread.

As with all things in life... It depends. If the topic interests me I will read every post. If the topic is mine, I feel obligated to read every post in case someone asks me a question. If it is a topic I posted on early on I will often read most of the posts that come after if it is a topic that is technique related, not just a picture with pages and pages of ooohs and aaahs. There are also topics where I skim through and if a picture quilt posts that I feel is exceptional I don't care if it has 20 pages of posts I will post on it too!

I only access the board through the internet. I have all email capabilities disabled. I just find it easier to login and navigate the board that way.

I read what interests me. I was gone for several days in the past and lost the "a regular here". I am not here because of that or the lack of it. I am here because I found this wonderful place and so many wonderful people. I think it is the "little foxes that spoil the vine" and who are we trying to impress. This is not meant as personal so please don't misunderstand. This is just my opinion and it is as free as the wind and it blows away with the wind.

kathy 07-27-2011 09:25 AM

if you just log in everyday and go to unread topics, the newer stuff is at the top, you can get to comment before it gets so many pages

Exactly my thoughts. :)

Glassquilt 07-27-2011 09:45 AM

I have this forum on my bookmarks toolbar. All I have to do is click on it.

Becka 07-27-2011 10:02 AM

I use the digest too, but since I don't log out, I don't have to log in to post. Depending on the topic, I will read every response, some I don't even click on. It also depends how it's titled. Then, if what I say would be redundant, I don't say it, unless I feel very strongly about it. I do like to post a couple of words for those who post pictures of their projects to encourage them. I know when the situation is turned, those little words go a really long way to encourage me
I haven't been a "regular" person in my whole life - not worried about starting now :) (But I also don't sell things, so the status doesn't impact me, and I can be flip about it. I mean no disrespect to those who need to maintain the status for business purposes. I don't sell, but I do buy and I couldn't buy if you weren't here to sell!)

I read or look at posts up to 2 pages. I find that after that it is too much repeated.... over and over. So if I see more pages than that, I don't bother looking at them. Personal preference with my time constraints.

jillnjo 07-27-2011 10:14 AM

I respond without reading pages of posts. I like to give a word or two about the quilts when persons have shared, yet if there are many pages of posts, I often do not. I access the board thru favorites, no problem.

Carrie Jo 07-27-2011 10:19 AM

I agree, sometimes I find myself just posting things to keep my regular status.

butterflies5518 07-27-2011 10:46 AM

I love looking at the pictures and since I have been on the posting side the comments encourage me to keep quilting. I don't read every post just those that catch my eye. I also like to browse for new ideas and tutorials to bookmark. My regular status never affects my browsing.

craftybear 07-27-2011 12:24 PM

I read the messages on the board and not thru emails

as I can click on unread topics and look and see what I want to read, watched topics, recent topics and pictures
(and of course links)

When a beautiful quilt is posted, I will read EVERY post prior to asking for the pattern information to make sure it isn't already posted.

When a topic interests me, I will read every post

I do not post if there are already a ton of postings or if I am echoing another post without need to.

Recently, when I post a picture of a quilt, I try to include the quilt size and source of the pattern to avoid unnecessary posts...

Maris 07-28-2011 08:24 AM

Good question. I recently signed on and have tried to at least read the posted question and a few remarks--takes a lot of time out of my day when I should be quilting or being a housewife. Wondered how others read the "board".

craftymatt2 07-28-2011 08:34 AM

Oh my no wonder I don't get anything done, I'm on here most of the day just reading and more reading. Watching to do topics and looking for stuff Craftybear sends out. I am having way to much fun. If I walk away I keep thing I'm missing something and have to go back to this site.

IBQUILTIN 07-28-2011 09:24 AM

Try hitting your back button instead of going to the home page. It seems to work better for me

I agree. I just have time to read and reply to all I would like to.

patski 07-28-2011 01:53 PM

I only reply here and there, if I can pass on info or if a quilt just knocks my socks off. So I'm much more regular than it shows!!

Grandma Peg 07-29-2011 08:49 AM

My favorite part is looking at all the beautiful pictures that people submit. Do not read what others write, just write how I like the item. There is not enough time in the day to read all the responses. But yet if you posted something, it is cool to read all the responses.

Marj2 07-31-2011 07:35 PM

We need two buttons "Like" and a "Love it" buttons! PLEASE!

Granny Charley 08-02-2011 01:59 PM

I read most of posts on the subjects that interest me. But I don't always read all posts before I respond. I am on here too much now! LOL!!

Like someone else said when I post something I read every response and really enjoy all the comments.

I always use the back arrow instead of the stuff at the top of this page.

pollyjvan9 08-03-2011 06:20 AM

As Felline and Crafty do I only access through the internet. The Digest is just to limited to interest me. Some of the most interesting and informative posts I have read did not show up on the digest due to lack of responses. Sometimes I just very quickly scroll through all the responses because there will be pictures buried in the responses that I like to see.

biscuitqueen 08-17-2011 04:18 PM

I guess I never paid any attention to how many posts were made or even pages for that matter. I only read every post if I have had a question or a topic that I wanted to follow. I think I'm a regular here, I haven't been posting much, life is getting busier. I'm still reading stuff that happened in July. lol

patchsamkim 08-17-2011 04:45 PM

Especially the posts that have more than a few pages of replies I have to admit that I don't read all the replies...with working full time, and trying to keep up with my house and have any time to quilt, I just don't have time for that...I read the ones that interest me and post a reply when I feel I have something to add, I will post to some that have very few or no replies...there is no way I could ever reply to every post. I wish I had more time to even look at all the pictures that are posted...I know I miss out on seeing some beautiful quilts.. I can't use the internet at work, so only usually have an hour or 2 on computer, and so much I want to do in that time....on the weekend I can spend more time and usually do more posting then.

katyquilter 08-17-2011 05:07 PM

I read all the posts if it's a topic of interest to me. I've learned a lot this way :D
