All of us have cells - meaning there are 4 in this house. However, we also keep our land line. DH often works from home, and his job involves conference calls for hours on end. The cell just wouldn't work for that.
When my dad moved here to live, we added him onto our cell plan, but he got a land line packaged with his cable that is reasonable, so he's got both again. My only problem is that he never answers EITHER phone :P How am I supposed to check on him if he doesn't answer? His health is good, so I don't worry at this point, but the day is coming where that will worry me... |
This has been an interesting thread to read through. No wonder the cell companies keep calling and offering plans.
Living out of service area, I don't even OWN a cell phone. I'm also able to make calls when the power goes out. |
I still have a home phone because it is easier to hear on it.
Sometimes the voices on a cell aren't as clear. I use the cell when we are not home or if we lose power which happens mostly when it is really hot during the summer. |
i GAVE UP MY LAND LINE AND LOVE IT. SAVED $30.00+

We have no choice. Living in the northern CT River Valley means we have mountains to the east and mountains to the west... that means virtually no cell reception here. We only seem to use it when we travel.

my security alarm works with my digital phone service. I use ADT and the system is quite few years old. I spoke to my isp and the security people and what ever magic was needed happened. I know it works as two weeks ago my alarm went off at 3:00a.m. (I forgot to turn off the motion dectector in the living roomand the dogs set it off) and the alarm company called before I got my glasses on and the gun out. It was a short night after that.

we live in the country had had the same problem of no signal at home. Sprint (and others) have come out with a signal booster for a small fee, I now have full signal strength.

I keep one phone that is corded just in case we have an outage. The rest are cordless for convience. I don't know why because we've only lost power a couple of times in over 20yrs but it's nice to know that if I have a power outage I can call if I need too.

All three of my daughters use cell phones only, however, we have kept a landline in NC because we don't get reception in the mountains for the cell phone. As long as you can get reliable reception, I see no reason not to use cell only.

I have Vonage, it hooks to my wireless modem, I don't have to have my computer on for it to work. It's great, just like a landline but $15.00 per month unlimited calling incl. Long distance, cal waiting,911 service, everything. I love it.
