Well it has come, my last day at the job I have held for the last 13 years. These last six weeks (since I learned I would be loosing my job) has been pretty tough. But the last week has been the worst.
Saying goodbye to my clients has been the hardest. I know they are not going to get the care and help I have given them for last 13 years and it worries me. I have been told by everyone that I shouldn't give it a thought, it was not my idea to do this and they will be just fine. Yesterday I had to fax my open issue to the agency who is taking over for ours and my hands shook as I pushed the submit button. :( :( :( Well I have to go now I know this will be an emotional day and I will be ok. I have alot to look forward to, no job though. But I will be able to finish a bunch of UFO's and that really makes me happy. I also signed up for the One Block Wonder tutorial that Cutebuns is doing. Check that out. Well I just wanted to get this off my chest. My DH is a great guy but I don't think he understands, I think it is a "girl" thing. Thanks for listening and sorry it was a bit of a bummer. You all have a blessed day. Denise :) |
Denise, I am so sorry about your job loss. I can relate. I did home visiting with at risk children for 15 years and was laid off the end of July. You will never forget your clients and they won't forget you or your kindness. I had a rough time the last week too. I told my boss I think it would have been better to tell me an hour before closing on Friday that I was laid off starting then. LOL
|
I don't think it's a girl thing. It's a "I really care about my job" type of thing. This Sunday, I will be here on the job for 27 years. The company, and the work I do, are so much a part of my identity, I'd be devestated if I was laid off. Sure, I'll recover but it would be a major blow.
I know it's tough out there, finding another job, but best of luck to you! |
Denise sorry to hear about your job. I know that once you have been working somewhere for a number of years your co-workers, clients, etc become more than just that. It is a type of family relationship even if the dynamics are different. Good Luck in whereever life takes you now, challenges are given to us to make us strong and I do believe that we are not given more than we can handle, but sometimes it seems we are pushed to the limit
|
My thoughts and prayers are with you today. I know from what you say that your clients received the best of care and will always remember you.
|
I know today will be difficult. There's a lot of disappointment in what you are facing. It's good that you are finding some things to look forward to. Do something special for yourself this weekend, and keep posting here your progress on your quilts. Take care!
|
I am so sorry, that has to be very hard for you, I hope you get through the day with as little tears as possible:)
(((HUGS))) |
So sorry you've joined the ranks of the jobless. It really gets old fast, applying for jobs that don't really exist, but fill your inbox with spam.
A suggestion or two - get an e-mail address exclusively for job hunting, try to make sense of all the contradictory advice about resume writing, and set up specific alerts on the job sites. One part time office job I interviewed for last week had 300 applicants. The ad was up for 24 hours! You don't list your state or region, but here in Florida, we are hurting! The only reason our unemployment rate is not higher is because folks are fleeing the state. |
I'm so sorry to hear about your job loss...that is really hard to deal with. Not a "girlie thing" at all, after all, its part of your identity. My heart goes out to you today.
|
sorry about the job loss. my thoughts are with you during this sorrowful time in your life. but hey! like you said--you'll be able to finish some projects now and wont that be GREAT!! Chin up and smile-things will turn out how they are supposed to be. Now go to your sewing place, sit down and SEW!!!!

There's another ongoing thread on this Board about "who else is in my position?" type of thing as to who else is in tough shape. I am SO tempted to copy parts of it and send it to my State reps as example of the real world and umemployment. People on this Board tell it like it really is! |

I hope you find a new job that makes you happy quickly.

I am so sorry Denise! I can't even imagine how you feel....I know you are strong enough to get through this tough day!
|
I am sending big hugs and hopes that a "this closed door will lead to an open door" that will be just as satisfying to you.
Leaving a job you are so attached to is very hard. I retired almost two years ago from a job I absolutely loved and still miss some parts of it. (we were moving.....DH was already retired...you get the picture) Life is always changing and it is always a challenge to adapt..... Wishing you lots of good luck in the future |
Sorry for your job loss. I am so glad I am retired and not in the ranks of the unemployed! Are you looking for work? Good luck.
|
Sorry to hear about your job loss. I agree with those who say it's NOT a female thing. Many men who lose their jobs go through a grieving period as well. Your self-identity is wrapped up in your job to a great extent.
BUT time off is wonderful, too. So although you will of course job hunt, take time every day for doing things you've always wanted to do. Just a thought - after 13 years, you must be very good at what you do. Could you apply for a position at the agency taking over the work for your old company? |
I am sorry that today is your last day with this position. Consider this an opportunity to explore other avenues. I know that doesn't sound positive, but I have been there and my life is better now than it was then.
|
It is emotional enough when you retire because you want to. So much haarder when you are "pushed" out. You are in my thoughts and prayers. It is horrible here in Wisconsin, too. 2 of my sons have been looking for full time work for months. Both are barely scrapping by on part time (with a little help from us). Politicians don't have a clue what it is like to live in the real world!!

Denise xoxoxoxoox So sorry to hear this distressing news. I know that when God closes a door he opens a window. Try to enjoy some time to yourself and try not to worry. We are all praying for you.

Good luck..when one door closes another better one open!
Best wishes in all your new adventures! |
Oh Denise this must be so hard for you. Please don't take this as an opportunity I have taken to talk about myself, but I will just tell you what happened in my case.
I was the one that said I was leaving after almost 26 years. I had my reasons. Man it was hard, like they didn't really care and I did just what they wanted me to do without them having the trouble of laying me off. Well I left, and did temp work for awhile and learned a lot about myself and the work. Then out of the blue someone that I had been acquainted with at the old job called me and said they had started their own business and asked if I would come help them catch up. I did, and it turned out to be full time. I never worked for a better company, or manager. Those people were the best, considerate, kind, and just good friends. Bottom line I guess is, there is good that comes out of every bad thing. It may take time, and I don't mean to belittle your pain. Just trying to give you some hope. |
Good luck !!! I hope a really good thing comes out of this.
|
Denise, So sorry about your job loss, keep yourself busy, maybe you have some ufo's you can finally get finished, it will take time to adjust to the new lifestyle, but you can get thru this, and hopefully things will be better soon.

My thoughts and prayers are with you. ((((((((((((((hug))))))))))))))

Take care all and may happiness by with you always, Denise |
