I've put up my Charlie Brown Christmas tree without ornaments. I first have to let the "quilt inspectors" approve it!

We have had this tree for years! It's a Dollar General special :) Actually this tree is 9 years old. As old as our marriage!

amma 12-01-2009 03:13 PM

Do they love your tree?? My BFF told me this morning their cats have claimed it and that they are afraid to decorate it now LMBO

crkathleen 12-01-2009 03:24 PM

Well, mommy had to lay the law down with a squirt bottle of water. They are napping right now so come tomorrow morning I will know if I need to hang a picture of a tree other than the current tree. They have been chewing on the ends. haha

Once you get the ornies on...that's the true test. What cat can resist all the pretty dangling ornaments. Remember..no tinsel though.

I have a kitten rescue. I can't keep them out of a tree but you can keep the tree from flopping over on your carpet and breaking your favorite ornaments: we use fishing line and wrapped it around the tree a couple times and tied it to the walls via a nail. No one can see it and it keeps it from flopping over. Works great with toddlers too.

Well, I couldn't wait so I added some lights. I'm thinking of adding another strand towards the top. I had to keep telling the kitties "No" when I put them on. I wouldn't dare put tinsle up. I know its not healthy for them.

So far so good. No climbing! :)
I do have a skirt I made with stamped velvet. But I need to hem it otherwise it will be a part of my kitties diet! lol

I grew up with lots of decorations for the holidays. I live in an apartment and I'm afraid to put anything on the walls but its killing me. I need to figure out a way to put something up!

I am not ususally home at Christmas, so I haven't put up a big tree for several years. It would require a major rearrangement, and where would I put my machine! My critters are so into everything and I would have to displace their feeding stations to do a tree justice. I have a Charlie Brown Tree that I use that is really pitiful, just a branch that I have wrapped with floral tape and lights that I hang nondestructible ornaments on. It gets lots of attention and they can bat the dangles without hurting anything.
The things we do for our critters.

We have a big tree, but have gone to unbreakable ornaments. It saves me money. I just have to put them back on the tree.

This is one of the homemade ornaments. I made this one a few years ago. Picture was taken last year on my mother's tree.

We put our tree in the dining room and can't decorate the bottom third of the tree. The dog stands by the table to beg and wags his tale (a lot). He knocks off any ornaments that would be hanging there. I guess I should teach him not to beg but he's cute!!

We don't have pets, but ever since my first baby, we have put 18 little gold-colored bells on the lowest branches of our tree. That way, when we'd hear the "tinkle-tinkle-tinkle" of the bells, we could holler, "are you touching the tree???" That same daughter uses them now, too, with 2 cats, 2 dogs and 2 rambunctious little boys in the house!

adriansmom 12-01-2009 08:41 PM

I believe it's 3M that makes those stickable wall hooks. They really do come off the wall nicely without making a mess. They come in all sizes I believe. We use them a lot around here cuz I don't like putting holes in the walls. This way you can hang stuff up nd not worry.

Bevanger 12-02-2009 06:20 AM

aw i love your tree, if i can get my son over long enough, i can get him to bring up my stuff from the basement

MNQuilter 12-02-2009 06:26 AM

I have to chuckle, my kitty loves to sit under our tree. She looks like our own little christmas present. The kiddos actually get after the ornaments and such more than either of the pets do. I have ye tto catch the cat trying to climb the Christmas tree and I've had her for 8 years. Speaking of which, I just looked over at the tree and who is sitting like a queen herself? One kitty.

amma 12-02-2009 07:08 AM

I love the idea of hanging bells on the lower branches... what a great way to know that they are touching the "no no's" LOL

crkathleen 12-02-2009 10:32 AM

That is a clever idea with the bells! I will look for some and also the 3M hooks.
Loretta, The ornament (my version of a snowbaby) was just an unfinished plaster ornament. Like the ones they sell at walmart around the holidays in the craft section. Painted them with regular acrylic craft paint. I did use a peach colored chalk for the cheeks (Picked that up at an art store). Used regular old elmers glue to paint the body then dusted it was snowflake like glitter (walmart). Then a light spray of acrylic spray paint. I've noticed over the years that the ones that I sprayed heavy have yellowed. I wish I could locate a place around here that pours ornaments. I used to get them for .50 cents a piece.

Shemjo 12-03-2009 02:34 PM

Pretty snow baby. I used to do ceramics, but I don't have any of the snow babies in ornaments.

crkathleen 12-03-2009 03:21 PM

By all means Loretta, have a ball! :)
I had several different poses and I would give them out in sets of 3 for Christmas presents.

Hunnib 12-03-2009 04:54 PM

I love your Charlie Brown tree!

sewnsewer2 12-04-2009 07:27 PM

90% of the ornaments on my tree are handmade made by my mom, my best friend and myself.

My quilt inspector chews on the bows on the presents but leaves my tree alone. Once in the while she will knock off an ornament so I make sure none near the bottom are breakable! LOL

amma 12-04-2009 07:41 PM

Have you got it decorated yet? And are they leaving it alone??
