Everybody should have to go, then you can come home and really appreciate what you have here in the United States.
Be safe and enjoy.

You are SOOO right about that. While I'm staying here in a luxurious hotel, have a personal driver, etc., the reality is that so many here in India are poor beyond description. Here's a photo that I snapped the other day on the way to work of someone's "home". Yes, we are truly, truly blessed.

Krystyna 07-24-2011 04:38 AM

You poor thing! My heart breaks for you.

#1piecemaker 07-24-2011 05:07 AM

Sorry, you've fell upon misfortune!! Looks like you've got it rough!

Yooper32 07-24-2011 05:35 AM

Where's the jam-packed streets with masses of people and cows and electric lines all snarled together and hanging down so far as to scare you to death?

lurag 07-24-2011 05:40 AM

I live in Indiana too but I don't have it that good. Do you have someone to turn your pages for you???? Enjoy, thx for sharing.

Oh, those are here too, in places. We're in the Whitefield section of Bangalore, which is close to the outskirts of Bangalore (pop. 5 million people).

olebat 07-24-2011 05:50 AM

Great photo. Looks like a shot to submit to QA.

pinebeltquilter 07-24-2011 06:15 AM

Eddie, I'm so sorry for you in that difficult situation.

mjsylvstr 07-24-2011 06:26 AM

I'm in Bangalore, which is in the southern part of India. I'm here on business for two weeks to teach some of our Indian employees. The weather here is splendid - 70's and maybe up into the low 80s. I will so miss this weather when I have to return to the US at the end of this week.[/quote]

My granddaughter came from Madras, now known as Chennai.
We are so lucky to have her and we remind her often how lucky she is to have been adopted by our daughter and now live in this wonderful country. Although we do remind her not to forget from where she came......

Several of the people in the class that I'm teaching are from Chennai. It's at a lower elevation than we are so it is hotter than blazes there right now. Everyone from India is so kind to us here, though, it really is a different culture from being back home. The Indian people are warm and welcoming in so many ways.

I went to India for about three weeks just before I started college on a Girl Scout Wider Opportunity. My favorite places of all were Mysore and Bangalore. It was such a great experience for me and especially a good experience just before I started college. Really did make me appreciate what I had. Although it is a beautiful country with a rich heritage as well. (I brought home a few textiles wish I could skip the long plane trip and go just to shop for more, now).

What kind of job takes you to India? It may be exotic to travel the world, but~~~~
Glad you have your beautiful quilting work to keep you sane while away from home. Be safe, and return soon. ')

Jersey Gal 07-24-2011 04:06 PM

No wonder you're finding it hard to work on your quilt. LOL

hperttula123 07-24-2011 06:55 PM

Looks really difficult...lol.

I was going to say enjoy yourself...but it looks like you already are. :)

daisydebby 07-24-2011 08:46 PM

Am glad you're enjoying yourself and teaching others. It's unfortunate that there is so much pain for so many people there. Ironic how those with so little can be so friendly and caring. We all need to appreciate what we have ... we are so blessed and take so much for granted....then you see the homeless situation. SAD. Off my soapbox...enjoy yourself, take lots of pictures, take in as much culture as you can, buy lots of beautiful fabric and, most importantly, report back to us:) We'll experience India vicariously through you:)

greaterexp 07-24-2011 09:08 PM

Poor thing. Bless your heart.
