Oh how pretty!!! Wow, that's early for sure!
I have one that was my husband's grandmother's. It's really old and doing great but no flowers yet.

nativetexan 10-31-2018 06:37 AM

Aww, so pretty. I gave mine to my hair dresser when i moved.

Tartan 10-31-2018 07:40 AM

Lovely bloom!

Maggie_Sue 10-31-2018 08:00 AM

Wow, that is early!!! Mine is not setting any buds yet....

oh wait, I found a very, very small bud......

selm 10-31-2018 08:42 AM

I've started stopped calling mine a "Christmas" cactus because over the years it has changed to blooming whenever it likes although it frequently blooms near a holiday such as Christmas, Easter or Thanksgiving. I especially like when it blooms after Christmas during the winter months as it gives such a lovely display of color in the dull months.

Chasing Hawk 10-31-2018 12:06 PM

Just beautiful Nan!

I know how you feel about stores rushing the season. Tomorrow there will be New Year's Eve decorations out for sale in the stores.

osewme 10-31-2018 12:09 PM

Beautiful & that's my favorite Christmas cactus color!

barny 10-31-2018 12:35 PM

Oh, that is a beautiful flower. I love it. Feed it and take care of it.ha,ha.

sewingsuz 10-31-2018 01:27 PM

Jingle 10-31-2018 03:58 PM

Very beautiful color. I have three different colors.

Mine likes to bloom whenever they feel like it. Just started feeding them.

SillySusan 10-31-2018 04:18 PM

Sandra in Minnesota 10-31-2018 07:22 PM

I had to give mine away after my new cat started to leave teeth marks on the leaves. Now, which one has to go.........the cat or the cactus??

Joset 11-01-2018 04:17 AM

grammasharon 11-01-2018 05:20 AM

Mine does the same. Usually starts about Sept or Oct. This year hasn't started yet so will see what Christmas brings. Love those pretty blooms.

I have three, pink, red and yellow. They spend the summer on the porch and reward me by blooming profusely from now until well after Thanksgiving. They brighten my days.

lwbuchholz 11-01-2018 06:55 AM

I have two that has bloomed too. One that color and a white one. Just 1 measly bloom each but they are so beautiful!

I have 6 Christmas cactus and 4 of them are either full of buds or blooming. So this year I guess I will call it a Halloween cactus. Like selm I no longer call them Christmas as they just seem to bloom when ever they feel like. I have moved them all to a room that stays a little cooler and they seem to like it a lot.

Rose_P 11-01-2018 06:29 PM

Beautiful! Thanks for showing it to us.

Aurora 11-02-2018 01:00 AM

Actually, that is a Thanksgiving cactus and it is right on schedule. There are three similar cacti -- Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter. There blooming cycles are based on daylight hours. Each is different in appearance, and the flowers also vary in appearance.

quilterpurpledog 11-02-2018 01:56 AM

I have one that is blooming also. It has about 30 blooms and lots more about to pop open. I have two others that have not started to bloom. They are about 75 years old and had belonged to my husband's mother. I remember her breaking off a chunk and give to about anyone who came into her house.

Rhonda Lee 11-02-2018 05:31 AM

I love blooming cactuses. yours is so pretty. thanks for sharing.

Haha! Well you know I won't vote for the cat to go :D
That's the only plant my cats aren't interested in. Lucky me.........

ptquilts 11-02-2018 05:04 PM

I have 2, a white and a dark pink, both blooming right now. They are on the floor beside a low window under the eaves. I was surprised to see a honey-like nectar had dropped from the white flowers onto the floor.

I don't do anything special to them, or to my amaryllis, and they just bloom whenever they want.

I looked that up,.,. you are right. Mine's a Thanksgiving cactus. Christmas cacti have rounded 'leaves' and thanksgiving cacti have sharp points on the 'leaves'. Thanks

How about when I feel like it, I’ll bloomin’ do it.

I just read about this recently in the garden section of a magazine-and it showed the leaves of each and the difference is something with the width and length of the leaves--but I can't remember which was which. My two are probably Thanksgiving ones cause I think they will be blooming in the next 2-3 weeks.

I never have, and now I live in an apartment with no ability to do that

SusieQOH 11-06-2018 03:58 PM

Nan, thanks for your reply. I summer mine in a shady area outside until it gets cold. It seems to like it. My plant is decades old (my husband's grandmother). I treasure that plant.

I'm a little jealous... I treasure mine because my DMIL had a huge one in her foyer all the years I knew her. I want mine to constantly remind me of her.
