A little something to brighten your day :)

We have a nice crop of these sunflowers growing at the moment; DH planted a mix that was supposed to be turned into the soil as green manure, but I wanted to see the flowers. In the late afternoon sunshine they were positively glowing. Enjoy :) (I had better get out and do some gardening now, back later)

I love sunflowers! I especially love the newer seeds that produce multiple stems of smaller blooms. Beautiful!

I am from Kansas. These are my states flower. I love to watch them follow the sun and in the evening "bow" Thier blooms as if to say good night and then in the morning they are so bright and looking east again in anticipation of following the sun again.

I'm originally from KS, too, so sunflowers have a special place in my heart, too!

I hate to sound really dumb but isn't it winter in New Zealand? How do you have sunflowers now? You're mighty lucky to have them!

AuntieD 07-29-2012 04:28 PM

I am actually located in Far North Queensland, Australia, and it is the middle of winter. The nights here in the hills are cold, but the days are warm. I too am surprised, and happy, the sunflowers are blooming. :)

Thanks again for all your replies. :)

Well, that "quote" thing didn't work too well for me. I hope you all understand :)

My husband and I was driving down a residential road one morning and saw this huge sunflower in the front yard of this little house. We stopped and I was taking a picture when the owner of the house came out. She was very proud of her sunflower and said it was ok to come in to the yard to take pictures. My husband is standing beside the bloom, so you can see how big it was. I have never seen anything like it before.

Latrinka 07-30-2012 07:34 PM

Beautiful flowers and table runner!
