Long Sleeve Shirts
When cutting long sleeve shirts into short sleeves how much of a hem to you
put on them. And would you turn the raw edge first with a small hem and then turn it again to the desired hem? |
small hem then turn again for a finished look..

I agree that you would make a narrow hem first, then turn for the finished hem. However, this can be more tricky than it seems because the width of the sleeve is probably not even. In other words, when you turn so the hem is the desired size, you may find that the edge is smaller than the sleeve. I did this a couple of times for dh, then told him no more. It was too difficult to get a nice-looking hem. Now he has to either buy new shirts or wear cut-off unhemmed sleeves.

One can open the seam up to the hem depth (an inch or 1-1/4 inches - whatever the hem allowance is) - that will frequently release enough fabric to minimize puckering.
The same thing applies to hemming shortened tapered leg pants. |
